Certified Athletic Trainer-IVCSD We are looking for a Certified Athletic Trainer at the Iowa Valley Community School District.

This position will develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medicine program for an assigned school district, or districts, in the hospitals service area. This position is part of the hospitals community outreach efforts. The needs of the school district, which may include the performance of duties outside of the customary role of the athletic trainer and as mutually agreed upon by the hospital and the school district, will receive priority when arranging the Athletic trainers schedule from week to week. Example may be strength and conditioning programming, performance enhancement programming, participation in physical education, lecturing, exc.

The health and well-being of the students of our school districts is the objective where ever need be. Attendance at sporting events and being accessible to assist players, patents/guardians, and coaches is a critical component to meeting this objective.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete’s injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether they should be refereed to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
• Care for athletic injuries using rehabilitation equipment, techniques, and medications.
• Evaluate athletes’ readiness to play, and provide participation clearance when necessary and warranted.
• Apply protective or injury prevention dives such as tape, bandages, or braces to body parts, such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.
• Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes’ to coaches and physicians.
• Collaborate with physicians in order to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
• Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment.
• Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs.
• Develop training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance.
• Attends sporting events for local school districts and be available to assist coaches and players with questions or injuries.
• Travel with athletic teams in order to be available at sporting events.
• Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, and community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
• Inspect playing fields in order to locate any items that could injure players.
• Conduct research and provide instruction on subject matter related to athletic training or sports medicine.
• Recommend special diets in order to improve athletes’ health, increase their stamina, and/or alter their weight.
• Confer with coaches in order to select protective equipment.
• Identifies and assesses athletic training needs including community, organizations, physicians, administration, patients, athletes, families, and staff.
• Provides services to patients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in health status as directed by and under the supervision of the physical or occupational therapist.
• Assist/develop/implement and/or provides prevention and wellness services.
• Assists in collecting data to identify patient conditions and needs as directed by the physical or occupational therapist and assesses the patient response to intervention.
• Acquires, maintains, and teaches others current knowledge and skills in athletic training and rehabilitation services while encouraging and environment conducive to continuous learning.

6. Meets attendance and punctuality guidelines of the organization. Attends meetings and in-service programs as required. Comes to rounding prepared and is accountable for attending rounding.
7. Organizes and expresses ideas clearly, using appropriate documentation and communication methods. Responds to requests from patients and coworkers in a timely manner, and communicates with them to ensure they are satisfied and that their needs are being met. Accepts constructive feedback in a positive manner. When involved in a negative conversation will turn the conversation in a positive direction.
8. Complies with all policies and regulations governing the activities of the organization. Participate in process improvement. Supports administration and the efforts for improvement and is part of the solution to the problems.
9. Supports goals and objectives of department and organization.
10. Performance exemplifies financial stewardship and budget sensitivity.
11. Is aware of differences and is sensitive to the needs of different cultures. Modifies behaviors and communications to accommodate these differences.
12. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care and service to customers and/or patients based on their physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and other related needs. 19. Manages time and prioritizes tasks to ensure that deadlines are met. Utilizes available resources when needed.
20. Volunteers to assist with employee activities and committees. Also supports and participates in community events.
21. Represents CMH positively in the community. Behaviors including criticizing, condemning and complaining about CMH or the communities in our service area in public are not acceptable. We will praise each other, commend the hospital and focus on the positive aspects of the hospital when in public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education, Experience, and Training
a. Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a health and/or exercise related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
b. Must have 2 years of previous experience in a related field.
c. Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board, or eligible to be certified within 6 months.
d. Must have Iowa License.
e. Must have basic knowledge in human anatomy & physiology.
f. Ability to train athletes in proper exercise techniques based on the patient assessment.
g. Experience is designing and managing a training program preferred.
h. Must have the ability to use critical thinking skill for problem solving and independent decision making.
i. Must have the ability to with a variety of patient care problems using tact and diplomacy.
j. Must have the ability to work with associated technologies relevant to the position.
k. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in written form, needs and solutions with all levels of the organization.
l. Ability to define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
m. Must possess valid Mandatory Reporter training for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse.
n. Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

Experience preferred but new graduates are welcomed and encouraged.

LICENSURE:
Iowa license and certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association required.
