Position: Development Director
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Supervises: Marketing & Development Coordinator, Volunteer/Intern project supports
Position Hours & Start Date: Full-Time, Open until filled, Recommended start April, 2022.
POSITION OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for strategy, budgeting and implementation of the fundraising efforts of Maria Droste Counseling Center (MDCC). This position will direct all aspects of the fundraising efforts, including: giving clubs/stewardship, special events, annual gifts, endowment and planned giving, major donor cultivation, board committee oversight, online giving and direct mail.
Additionally, this position will oversee communications and marketing to coordinate marketing and public relations efforts, promoting mission, services, goals, events and special projects. This person is a member of the organization’s leadership team (Executive Team), and primary fundraising contact for the Board of
Directors, and may perform other duties as requested by the CEO.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Five or more years experience in nonprofit fundraising with a track record of fundraising success, with major gifts, special events and direct mail.
- A minimum of three years in a leadership/management position.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, supervisory and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with computer software and applications (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite) and donor databases (Donor Perfect) is preferred.
- Knowledge of the Denver philanthropic community strongly preferred.
- Experience and/or interest in mental health and underserved and diverse communities preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fundraising Programs: Major Donor, Annual Giving, and Endowment/Legacy Giving Manages, coordinates, implements and enhances MDCC’s annual giving program following and building upon the campaign plan, and overseeing precise messaging for external communications. o Tracks, stewards and communicates with monthly, annual and cumulative giving clubs. o Plans and staff donor stewardship events and outreach. o Works with the CEO to build relationships and solicit individuals, grantors, and businesses.
- Systems*
o Ensures that effective and efficient communication & fundraising systems are in place. This includes identifying and researching donor prospects, tracking and cultivating donors’ involvement to ensure that donors and prospects stay engaged with the organization, and maintaining communication database contacts (Donor Perfect, Constant Contact). o Partners with the Finance Department for reporting purposes and program staff for evaluation and outcomes information.
- Communications & Marketing*
o Oversees communications and marketing efforts of the agency, including management of organizational website and social media pages. o Assists CEO with messaging to the outward community, building outreach and awareness. o Oversees the Coordinator and volunteers who support social media campaigning. o Manages the Marketing and Communications Board-level Committee
- Online Appeals and Direct Mail Efforts*
o In partnership with the CEO, develops annual online and direct mail campaigns. o Oversees online appeals, direct mail and other mass communication efforts and tracks ROI with these efforts. o Creates and works from one organizational timeline to manage all activities.
- Special Events*
o Manages and implements major events including the Fall Golf Tournament, donor breakfasts, and other awareness building events in line with strategic initiatives. o Oversees meetings, tracks timelines, creates post-event reporting/evaluations, and supervises staff and volunteers.
- Relation to Top Management* o In coordination with the CEO, this position sets the annual income and expense budget for development and tracks fundraising revenue and expenditures. This person is responsible for meeting or exceeding all campaign revenue goals. o Reports regularly to CEO on development efforts, including a written annual report. o Conceives new ideas for raising revenue and endeavors to bring new funding sources (individuals, places of worship, foundations and corporations) to the organization. o Serves as primary fundraising contact for the board and reports out at board meetings. o Manages, facilitates and tracks board fundraising commitments and efforts.
OTHER DUTIES
- Supervises the development staff, contractors, and volunteers, delegates tasks when appropriate, encourages learning, recommends ongoing training, welcomes new ideas and suggestions and provides feedback. Leads regular team meetings and conducts annual reviews.
- Serves as the primary liaison to the board and committee members for identification, pre-solicitation and solicitation of their assigned prospects and donors including background preparation for appointments.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary commensurate with experience (up to $65-75k per annum)
