Floral Clerk

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

To provide support in floral sales, customer service and floral product care.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Emphasis is on customer service and proper care of plants and cut flowers. Depending on the business, there is limited opportunity for floral design. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, light lifting, standing, and operation of register and assorted floral tools that may include underwater stem cutter, pricing machine, and box cutter. Position functions may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Floral Manger, Floral Merchandiser, or person in charge.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

1. Assists with customer orders

- Provides courteous, prompt and accurate customer service

- Sells product

- Packages order

2. Receives and prices as necessary all plants and flowers supplied

- Checks shipment for content and quality

- Verifies delivery to invoices and signs for product

- Prices, strips, cuts and conditions flowers properly

- Upgrades blooming and green plants and adjusts retails accordingly - Ensures proper pricing in all store and department systems

3. Takes care of all floral items

- Removes hanging baskets from display rack with plant hook, waters and replaces to rack

- Checks and waters all green and blooming plants on sales floor

- Removes dead leaves

- Processes all fresh flowers upon arrival

- Checks water levels in all fresh flower items

- Keeps balloons inflated

4. Cleans walk-in, bouquet and arrangement coolers and back coolers

- Sweeps and washes floors

- Empties water from bucket and bleaches

- Cleans shelves and display areas

- Keeps back storage area organized

Functional Requirements

Frequent: Physical - lifting/carrying 2 to 25 lbs., standing, reaching, turning, stooping/bending, squatting, walking, climbing ladders, equipment operation (telephone, calculator, knife, scissors, under-water flower cutter, wire cutter, watering can, plant hook, rack, box cutter, stem cutter)

Mental - reading, writing, math, judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction Environmental - exposure to cooler

Occasional: Physical – lifting/carrying 25 to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling 150 to 500 lbs., equipment operation (flatbed, pallet jack)

Follows all store and department policies and procedures

Minimum Position Qualifications Requirements:

• Effective interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Friendly, approachable and outgoing demeanor/team player
• Sound judgement/decision making skills.
• Basic math skills (counting, addition, and subtraction)
• Willingness to take initiative.

Desired Previous Job Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous Floral experience and knowledge of building bouquets and plant care desired

Part time and Full time positions available. Positions vary based on hours. Overnights, mid-day, morning and night shifts all available. Flexible availabilities offered. Weekend availability is preferred for this role.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $14.25 - $16.25 per hour

Expected hours: 12 – 40 per week
