We Require Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card, upon hire We Also Value Paid, internship, or volunteer public library experience Job Contributions Provide reference and reader advisory services and respond to customer concerns Plan and present library programming and conduct group tours, school visits, and community outreach Instruct library patrons on the use of PCs, the online catalog, various databases, and the Internet Prepare book displays, create posters, bibliographies, bookmarks, bulletin boards, and games Facilitate public reading programs and initiatives and compile and report library statistics Manage monies received, balance cash drawer, and prepare cash summary Oversee advisory groups, coordinate volunteer assignments, and serve in a lead role as appropriate Evaluate and weed collection and serve as a local liaison to the central selectors for library materials Serve on standing and/or ad-hoc committees Working Conditions Library environment requiring evening and weekend availability May be located on a K-12 school campus and involve interaction with student customers Ability to push, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 20 pounds floor-to-waist; lift up to 5 pounds waist-to-shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder-to-overhead, carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet, and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet Selection Procedure The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified.
