The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek. As a Smart Justice Adult Career Advisor, you will be providing case management services to adults enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program. You will work in a fast-paced, high-volume, performance-based environment throughout Maricopa County, including jails, prisons, and probation sites. You will utilize assessments, career coaching, job search assistance, and resource referrals to assist our participants. You will play a crucial role in making a difference in a person's life and play an essential role in strengthening our County. Proud to Offer Perform work with a greater purpose Opportunities for growth and development within Maricopa County Tuition reimbursement Exceptional work-life balance Low-cost, high-value healthcare for you and your qualifying dependents Paid vacation, sick, and parental (birth/adoption) leaves Extensive wellness program, including healthcare premium discounts Employee discounts for goods and services Learn more at maricopa.gov/5284/Why-Work-Here We Require Bachelor's degree in behavioral science, justice studies, business administration, education, social work, psychology, or a related field One year of experience in employment, training programs, case management, career development activities, reentry services, or equivalent social service programs Combination of post-secondary education or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire Must complete a background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to secure and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card; must have the ability to obtain a jail security clearance card We Also Value Two years of experience in reentry career services, education, or social services One year of experience working with justice-involved individuals Job Contributions Assess participants' barriers to employment and arranges available area resources and supportive services as needed, including transportation, education, and emergency assistance Create, update, and maintain accurate participant case notes and files Meet with participants one-on-one or in a group enrollment setting to review applications and determine if the customer meets WIOA eligibility requirements Advise participants regarding secondary education, post-secondary training, resume development, and permanent employment opportunities. Conduct program orientations, informational seminars, and one-on-one sessions with participants Assist participants in developing career and education action plans. Perform and interpret academic and work readiness evaluations and assessments Provide and track referrals to program partners and community-based service providers Provide intensive, sustained one-on-one support and guidance to a caseload of justice-involved individuals Provides labor market information on in-demand occupations. Conduct presentations for justice-involved individuals who temporarily reside within state and County facilities Working Conditions Located at 1001 West Southern Ave., Suite 101 Mesa, AZ 85210 Work is performed in various environments, including ARIZONA@WORK-Maricopa County Career Centers, non-profit organizations, jails, prisons, and detention centers Conduct community outreach and participate in career or education events in a variety of neighborhoods as well as indoor and outdoor settings on occasion Ability to travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles or private vehicles used on County business Evening and weekend work as needed to meet program requirements Selection Procedure The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources. All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation. A background investigation is conducted on a current employee who changes to a Safety Sensitive Position or one having the potential for serious adverse impact on the integrity or efficiency of the County.
