Job Summary: The Sr. Scrum Master will lead the agile team and development partners through the software development life cycle process. This would include Agile Scrum-based software development, Hybrid Agile based development along with cross functional communication, software technical project management, requirements traceability, source code control, test case management and defect tracking. The Sr. Scrum Master monitors the health of the team by managing the implementation improvements as suggested in team retrospectives and having feedback conversations with all team members on a regular basis. In the Sr. Scrum Master role, you will be a Servant Leader to your team(s), establishing and maintaining an environment where the team(s) can be effective, fostering a relationship between the team and the Product Owner as well as other dependent teams, and protecting the team from outside interruptions and distractions. The Sr. Scrum master will encourage open communication and transparency, and drive the appropriate Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban, etc.), while focusing on predictability, quality delivery, continuous improvement of the team and overall execution. Responsibilities: Serves as Scrum Master for 2-3 teams coordinating and facilitating standard Agile ceremonies Is prepared for and actively participates in applicable SAFe ceremonies (s2, PI planning, etc.) Ensures team is prepared for and facilitates planning and dependency negotiations during Sprint and Program Increment (PI) Planning Proactively monitors and drives delivery goals for the sprint and the program increment Understands team(s) domain, the specific Epics/Features the team(s) are working on and upstream/downstream dependencies to the extent you can speak to it at a high level and recognize impacts. This may include dependencies, financial impact, need for end to end testing, etc. Proactively engages with other Scrum Masters or Teams to mitigate risks or dependencies Proactively identifies impediments and drives resolution using appropriate channels, escalating if required Introduces new and advanced practices to improve teams delivery Is a Servant Leader, motivating the team(s) and shielding them from disruptors and unnecessary noise Partners with Product Owner to improve the overall team health and Agile maturity Coach’s team(s) to the next level of agile and helps to increase its efficiencies and effectiveness, with timely contributions to team members’ success Maintain and track metrics of your team’s health and progress and share with the team to discuss areas of opportunity Enables and encourages the team to be open and transparent Ensures team adherence to controls and governance/standards set by the Agile Release Train Drive consistency and adherence to standards for tracking work in Jira and audit readiness of document repositories Proactively seeks and participates in learning opportunities or ways to share own knowledge such as Communities of Practice, classroom training and independent study to further develop self and community Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Scrum Master Certification 3 Years hands-on software delivery experience in an Agile environment 3 Years Agile Scrum or Kanban experience 2 Years working experience with Scaled Agile and managing dependencies across multiple teams in or outside the Agile Release Train (ART) High-level understanding of software architecture and software delivery lifecycle to provide context of teams work to management as needed Great skills and knowledge with facilitation, coaching, mentoring, scrumming distributed teams, conflict resolution, continual improvement and empowerment Previous experience on Infrastructure teams or project Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience 3 Years working experience with Scaled Agile on an Agile Release Train SAFe certified (or other scaled agile frameworks) Working understanding of Insurance Choose Markel: Innovative hybrid work model * A diversity and inclusion focused employer * Exceptional base salary and bonus structure * Comprehensive benefits which include PTO, medical, dental, vision, 401K and more * Growth opportunities to advance your career* Ongoing coaching and career development * Fast paced, high performance environment *Profitable Fortune 300 company in business since 1930.
