The Market Underwriter 2 works under limited supervision of the Region Leader to make sound underwriting decisions and generate profitable growth for assigned agencies primarily focused on new business. Serves as the primary Personal Lines contact for core agents within assigned territory. Actively pursues leads for new business pipeline. Reviews and approves all new business applications within assigned authority. Serves as a resource within the underwriting region for sales, underwriting and analytical skills.

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

  1. With limited supervision, responsible for generating profitable growth from assigned agencies primarily focused on new business.  Makes responsible decisions regarding risk acceptability. 
  2. Acts as the primary Personal Lines contact for core agents within assigned territory, Agency Coordinator for assigned Trilogy and Horizon agencies, and Personal Lines representative on cross-functional teams.
  3. Actively pursues opportunities and adds leads to the new business pipeline on a regular basis.
  4. Based on authority level, appropriately reviews and approves all new business applications and high value/complex accounts with limited assistance. Refers accounts that exceed assigned authority level to the appropriate level. Assists other underwriters with risk referrals.
  5. Reviews high value inspections for assigned agencies.
  6. Supports compliance initiatives within the department.
  7. Develops, implements, and monitors state/territory plans.  Monitors all implemented sales plans within assigned territory monthly and provides a quarterly report to the Region Leader.

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. A minimum of 5 years of P&C underwriting/marketing experience OR a successful track record as Market Underwriter 1.
  2. Previous underwriting experience working with moderate to high complexity accounts.
  3. Demonstrated strong underwriting and pricing acumen including a proven track record of profitable results and effective territory management.
  4. Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
  5. Demonstrated strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize work.
  6. Proven ability to analyze problems and develop business solutions.
  7. Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills.

 

Physical Requirements (specific to the role)

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40 hours per week (including sitting, standing, and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to operate an automobile within the parameters of the driving policy.
