POSITION DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Title 1 Teacher, Title 1 Director and Principal
RATIONALE: To assist the teacher by working with individual students or small groups of students to master designated skills (under the direction of the teacher).
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education or obtained an associate’s degree.
2. Passing score of 85% or higher on the TABE literacy, writing, and math test preferred.
3. Early literacy instructional experience strongly preferred.
4. Completed instructional strategies training strongly preferred. In absence of training the willingness to be trained as required for the job performance.
5. Effective communication skills (usage, grammar, and vocabulary), both oral and written.
6. Experience in working with young children.
7. High energy level, creative problem-solving ability, and sensitivity to the needs of students.
8. Evidence of the ability to work with and relate to students positively and with enthusiasm.
9. Proven history of showing initiative.
10. Experience working as a member of an instructional team.
11. Possess the ability to follow through on activities without continuous teacher direction.
12. Must meet health requirements as required by performance responsibilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to master skills previously taught by the teacher.
2. Communicates orally with the students; example: Reads to students, listens to students read, and reviews directions.
3. Communicates effectively with all members of the instructional team.
4. Assists with collecting data to substantiate various types of assessment.
5. Operates equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
6. Assists in preparing teaching materials.
7. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
