What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical HELP Specialist position at Marshall University?
The Medical HELP Specialist will assist in the development, coordination, and instruction of individual and group sessions in a primarily virtual format. They will work with medical students, physicians, and other students in the allied health sciences, as well as students in other professional programs, such as law, nursing, etc. who are struggling academically, or who are wanting to improve their overall academic and test taking skills. The purpose of the topics covered during these sessions will be to improve the ability of the participants to successfully achieve their primary goals, which can include, but are not limited to: passing 1st and 2nd year classes in MD or DO programs; passing board exams, shelf exams, or other types of examinations; improve performance in a given program; improve test performance; gain entry to school of choice; improve performance in related biological and allied health science programs such as Phar.D., physical therapy, dentistry, etc.
Essential Job Functions:
Assist in communication with prospective clients regarding our services.
Assist in maintenance of the Medical HELP calendar of classes.
Assist in communication, collaboration, advertising, and services with professional and healthcare schools.
Assist in interviewing potential clients to determine academic strengths and needs.
Support the Coordinator of Medical HELP in program and lesson development.
Assist in writing reports for students who have completed the program, including concerns, successes, and recommendations.
Collaborate with HELP. Program staff.
Communicate with Marshall University faculty and staff as appropriate.
Assist in training sessions for HELP employees when requested by Medical HELP Coordinator and/or HELP Program Director.
Support Coordinator of Medical HELP and Business Manager regarding information relevant to client billing.
Assist Medical HELP Coordinator in assessment of needed supplies for efficient and effective serve delivery.
Keep abreast of current research, professional practices, laws, and strategies within the field of Learning Disabilities and ADHD, especially as applicable to students of professional programs.
Keep abreast of current expectations of programs and exams in which clientele are preparing for.
Support the Coordinator and/or Assistant Coordinator of Medical HELP to conduct (primarily virtual) classes for individuals or groups participating in Medical HELP. These classes will facilitate improvement in the following areas: reading comprehension, reading speed, note-taking and test-taking strategies, organization of time, study skills, memory improvement, non-medical management of ADHD, coping with expectations of school, improvement of self-esteem and ability to think positively, and any other areas as may be deemed appropriate.
Assist the Medical HELP Coordinator to design and revise curriculum based on research, student feedback, and other insights to improve the program.
Assist in advertising for the program through print and digital media.
Represent H.E.L.P. at a variety of university and professional functions, including national conferences and recruitment opportunities.

Location MURC - Marshall University Research Corporation Salary Range $33,000-$36,000 - Salary is commensurate with experience and internal equity

- Completion of master’s degree
Experience
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills, with ability to focus for long periods of time through a virtual format.
- Leadership abilities, as well as the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with students, associates, supervisors, and faculty.
- Excellent organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
Experience
One year working with medical students and/or students in the allied health professions.
One year of experience working with students with Specific Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD.
