POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller develops, implements, and manages the financial aspects of the organization's Finance department. In performing these functions, the Controller will identify areas of process improvement, implement procedures to streamline workflow and mange deadlines for financial reporting. The Controller will work closely with the CFO on reporting requirements to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors. The Controller will also assist in the preparation of the annual budget, provide financial analysis, and make recommendations to the CFO regarding financial decisions, asset management, and mitigating institutional risk. The Controller will manage financial related positions of the Finance department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance
- Manage and perform all related duties relative to producing accurate and timely financial statements.
- Oversees payroll function and all tax compliance work, day-to-day accounting processes such as accounts payable and receivable, as well as annual financial audits, all with best financial practices and effective leverage of available technology.
- Communicates with Finance staff, leadership team and Martha O’Bryan Center Foundation staff on complex financial matters for timely decision-making.
- Manage and perform investment statement reconciliations and bank reconciliations in a timely manner according to agency policy.
- Monitor banking transactions and balances on a daily basis and make transfers of funds when required.
- Manage The Center’s credit card program and Amazon business account.
- Coordinate the recording and reconciliation of intercompany accounts with the MOB Foundation, Explore! Community school and East End Prep school.
- Provides oversight of all financial reporting, ensuring that timely and accurate information is distributed to external and internal users in a timely manner.
- Provides guidance to program and administrative staff in understanding and interpreting financial information and statements, including analysis for actual versus budgeted expenses throughout the fiscal year.
- Contributes to the development of the annual agency budget in conjunction with administrative and program staff.
- Ownership of financial systems and maintenance related to those systems. (Aplos, Bill.com, etc.)
- Lead the annual external audit process ensuring timely submission of information to external auditors.
- Maintains up to date financial management skills and knowledge.
- Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience.Three or more years of supervision, financial management and budgeting experience in an organization with revenues in excess of $10 million.
- Experience in a computerized accounting and multi-cost center environment.

- Non-profit experience preferred(but not required)
