Position Summary
Reports to Aggregate Quality Manager I (Metro Denver). This position will provide demonstrated leadership, technical, and administrative support necessary to assist and ensure that products are in compliance with all specifications required.
This specialty role will also provide support for the Asphalt Quality Managers and Central Laboratory Testing Lab Manager for aggregate specific needs as well as lead Operational Excellence initiatives throughout the region.
Assist with the implementation of best practices and techniques in regard to quality and product optimization. Assist all levels of the operation with establishing and achieving quality objectives while working closely with operations, sales, and QC teams.
Responsibilities
- Ensures all rolesin the QC Department are executed in a safe manner. Followsand encourages safety guidelines when on construction sites and Martin Marietta operations.
- Establish the environment as a priority in daily activities and act as a steward to the environment. Demonstrate a commitment to meet or exceed environmental compliance.
- Ensures good customer relations. Must be able to communicate effectively with customers. Provides customer support in resolving quality concerns and problems in the field.
Educates customers in proper construction techniques and application of products as needed.
- Ensures good employee relations. Must be able to clearly communicate objectives, goals, and tasks with internal team members.
- Assist in the investigation and testing of new raw material sources and products.
- Aid in the training and development of new technicians.
- Coordinate sampling of materials on job sites and at production facilities for HMA design submittal process. Act as a liaison between customers / consultants and plant technicians before and during production.
- Support of Operational Excellence initiatives including CSS measurement program, loader operator training, secondary feed sampling, and pit run gradations and implementation of corporate quality KPI’s.
- Assistance with Central Laboratory advanced testing such as R-value, Proctors, and Atterberg Limits including AMRL PSP samples.
- Assist with other regional initiatives such as stockpile density testing for inventory management.
- Assist with Quality System Management related to UP M-1003 program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in math, and basic science skills.
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with people management skills (able to work with and develop people, provide direction for overall group objectives, diversity with situations and people such as internal management, customers and owners).
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations and act in a professional manner.
- Must be team oriented with ability to effectively manage conflict.
- Proficient with computers and technology (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, SharePoint, database applications).
Education and Experience
- 5 years related industry experience, in aggregates, asphalt or construction materials.
- 3 years industry experience in a supervisory role.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred in Construction Management, Engineering (Mining or Civil), or equivalent experience
- Currently has CAPA Level E and / or ACI Aggregate I and II or has previously had with ability to obtain within 1 year.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

- Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
- Ability to work outdoors in all environmental conditions work is being performed.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk on uneven terrain.
- Ability to work various hours including weekends, nights, and overtime.
