What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Visitor position at Mary Kraft?
Building on child and family strengths for school readiness goals and success in life, the Home Visitor coordinates the home-based child development services provided to families expecting a baby and those who have an infant or toddler in the home. The Home Visitor teaches an educational curriculum model in the home and at group socialization activities as well as providing case management building on child and family strengths.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts home visits to each child or pregnant mother focusing on child development, health, nutrition, and mental health. Creates a learning environment that will appropriately nurture and support each child, mother or primary partner’s growth and development in a manner that is consistent with Head Start and Catholic Charities Performance Standards and expectations.
- All interactions with children, mothers and other partners will convey messages which are respectful, patient, and demonstrate an interest in the person. Interactions will help the child or other person feel valuable and cared for. Interactions with children, co-workers and caregivers should model and demonstrate positive guidance and collaboration.
- Develops an Individual Development Plan for each child in collaboration with primary partners and monitors the progress of the plan. Maintains ongoing child assessment in collaboration with parents for home-based families. Conducts developmental vision and hearing screening on all children.
- Demonstrate awareness of position as role model.
- Provides prenatal information to expectant parents.
- Organizes and conducts group socialization activities for home-based parents and children. Assists parents with transportation to program functions and to appointments.
- Maintains an inventory of community services and resources. Serve as a resource for families and other staff members. Refers families to service providers in the community.
- Serves as liaison between community agencies and families.
- Participates in the development and implementation of Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP) for children with documented developmental disabilities.
- Participates in the annual review of the program with teams of staff and parents and makes recommendations for change.
- Collaborate with other staff members in the implementation of Center plans, activities, policies, procedures, and other rules/guidelines.
- Comply with federal, state, and local guidelines and with the policies and procedures of the Maryland State Office of Child Care, Head Start and Catholic Charities.
- Maintains records on assigned children and families.
- Prepares and submits reports of service area activities for agency management.
- Keeps abreast of changes in the fields of child development and early childhood education.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and job-related/career development workshops and/or seminars are assigned or requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Home Visitor I (421000):
- A minimum of a home based CDA credential or comparable credential, or equivalent coursework as part of an associates’ or bachelor’s degree. Associates Degree in social services, human development or related field is preferred; a working knowledge of infant toddler development and. social work or case management experience is preferred.
Home Visitor II (443000):
- Bachelor’s degree plus Home Visitor I requirements.
REQUIRED
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions.
- Basic Windows PC, web browsing (i.e., Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.), and Microsoft Outlook skills required.
- Other Microsoft Office application knowledge, such as Word, Excel PowerPoint, Skype, and OneDrive desired.
