Job Description: Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for a full time Lead or Senior Lead Environmental Specialist to serve as Laboratory Coordinator in the Technical and Environmental Services Group at our Headquarters facility in Millersville, MD. This Section provides sampling, laboratory and compliance reporting services for over 200 MES projects. Primary responsibilities for this position include environmental laboratory coordination, lab project and contract management, data review, project tracking, supervision of staff, permit and safe drinking water compliance, and Biomonitoring and Toxic Chemical Plan writing, data review and report submission. Estimated Pay Range: $58,312.44 - $88,000 Benefits: Health Insurance with choice of medical plan and prescription, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance options, along with flexible spending accounts 401K retirement savings program with generous agency match Paid vacation, personal and sick leave Ten paid holidays per year Tuition assistance Minimum Requirements: Lead Environmental Specialist: Bachelors Degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology or a related field from an accredited college or university plus five years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management, two years of which must have included responsibility managing environmental projects. Assignment to some locations may require two years of supervising environmental professional and technical staff. Applicants may substitute an applicable advanced education degree for up to two years of experience. Senior Lead Environmental Specialist: Bachelors Degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology or a related field from an accredited college or university plus six years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management, three years of which must have included responsibility managing environmental projects. Assignment to some locations may require three years of supervising environmental professional and technical staff. Applicants may substitute an applicable advanced education degree for up to two years of required experience. Experience with environmental laboratories, environmental regulations, compliance, permitting and project coordination are preferred. Requires knowledge of environmental regulations specific to laboratory analysis and methods (preferably for water and wastewater), excellent client service skills, ability to coordinate work with peers and technical personnel, and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. This position is nearly 100% office based and requires skills in data review, data entry, and attention to detail. Requires high level of proficiency with computers, specifically with respect to spreadsheets and word processing. Must have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points.
