About the Mother’s Recovery Program
The Mother’s Recovery Program is a therapeutic home for pregnant and parenting women between the ages of 21 and 35 and their children. The women in the program have substance abuse and mental health needs, are in jeopardy of losing custody of their children, and have been referred to the Mother’s Recovery Program by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. This program provides a safe and secure home, mental health services, substance abuse treatment and counseling, parenting classes, vocational training, life skills education and academic services to prepare the women for a successful transition back into their communities as productive adults and to help them develop healthy relationships with their children. In addition, the program provides a children’s curriculum to address the needs of the children living with their mothers.
About the Recovery Coach Technician Position
Our Recovery Coach Technicians provide services to mothers struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. Services will include social skills training, group counseling, parenting skills training, health promotion, crisis intervention, transportation, supportive employment counseling and other services depending on client need.
The ideal candidate for this position will work with individuals to identify needs and priorities to facilitate positive change as defined by the client. He or she will be a problem solver, self-motivated, and be organized in their interactions with clients and documentation.
Essential Functions
- Assist clients in conducting meaningful daily activities, such as family care taking, job/employment preparation, interaction with and support of their children’s school activities, learning/enhancing independent living skills and finding community resources necessary to participate in society.
- Assist clients in developing their parenting skills by providing direction, guidance, and care for the children in the program. Provide supervision of children while clients are in treatment. Design and implement individual and group activities for the children.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the program, prepares meals for the children when necessary.
- Support clients in their efforts to manage their addictions through abstaining from use of alcohol, illicit drugs, and non-prescribed medications. Help clients to make informed, healthy choices that support their physical and emotional well-being.
- Support clients in their clinical, medical, faith-based, peer and family support, self-care and other treatments.
- Work one on one with clients to set goals towards achieving positive change as they define it for themselves, help assess progress in achieving personal goals, and assist clients redefine goals as indicated. Work with clients to remove barriers to achieving positive change.
- Assist in creating a supportive environment in which Recovery is an individually defined concept and all paths toward it are encouraged.
Requirements
- Education
- Bachelor Degree in one of the fields referenced in counseling and guidance, rehabilitation counseling, social work, education, vocational counseling, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy, or related human service field, or
- Bachelor’s Degrees in any other field with two years of experience in a mental health or recovery setting, or
- High School Diploma with two years’ experience working in a residential, mental health or substance abuse setting.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Computer proficiency.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License in compliance with the driving standards as identified on Form CFS-671. Able to drive a passenger van.
Physical Demands
- Required to sit, stand, walk, bend and drive for extended periods of time. Ability to walk up and down stairs.
- Required to lift, move objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds.
- Must possess ability to provide physical restraint to youth.
- Must have the visual, hearing and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential job functions as defined above.
- Duties involve contact with individuals who may be hostile, dangerous, threatening, aggressive, and suicidal and/or under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
- Must be flexible in scheduling and willing to work evening and weekend shifts.
