About the Family Peer Advocate
Masa is seeking a Family Peer Advocate to collaborate with families to assess their needs and link them to appropriate resources in their community. The Family Peer Advocate (FPA) will be a parent/caregiver of a child who has experienced social, emotional, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges and has ‘lived experience’ navigating multiple child serving systems on behalf of their child(ren) with social, emotional, developmental, health and/or behavioral healthcare needs.
The right person for this job will be excited about supporting immigrant and undocumented families, be able to build and maintain relationships, possess wisdom gained through lived- experience, and show respect in all aspects of work
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with families to assess their needs and link them to appropriate resources in their community
- Share personal knowledge and experiences about the youth serving system
- Partner with other staff members and teams of the Vibrant Alliance to provide supportive services
- Conduct outreach and presentations to schools, early intervention programs, clinics, and other community-based providers with a special emphasis on connecting with communities that have been historically hard to reach
- Facilitate /co-facilitate parenting education and support groups
- Conduct home and community visits to meet the family in locations that allow for the best possible opportunity for assistance
- Organize and support social and recreational activities for families
- Enter all services on a daily/weekly basis into a data entry system and maintain records up to date
- Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- The Family Peer Advocate (FPA) will be a parent/caregiver of a child who has experienced social, emotional, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges and has ‘lived experience’ navigating multiple child serving systems on behalf of their child(ren) with social, emotional, developmental, health and/or behavioral healthcare needs.
- Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, both oral and written
- Experience working with immigrant communities
- Able to complete the FPA credentialing process within 18 months of being hired
- Excellent judgement; attention to discretion and confidentiality
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable with computer technology and systems, including entering and tracking data and proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Work flexible hours, as required
- Bicultural candidates are encouraged to apply
- Familiarity with social service agencies in the South Bronx is a plus
- Candidates possessing exceptional skill but not all of the qualifications are also encouraged to apply
Physical demands:
- This position is in-person at Masa’s office, and may require local travel to other settings at times (e.g. community and outreach events, etc.)
- Light to moderate carrying of program materials is required
- Work schedule may include occasional evenings and weekends.
- COVID-19 vaccination, as well as adherence to hand washing, mask-wearing and other COVID-19 safety protocols, is required.
Compensation
- 43,500/year
