What are the responsibilities and job description for the GI Technician position at Mass General Brigham Incorporated?
Day Shift, Full Time, Monday-Friday. 8 hr shifts. Variable Start Times, from 6:00 am - 10:00 am.
The GI technician performs a variety of duties in the GI Unit related to maintaining a safe, efficient and supportive environment for patients undergoing procedures in the Gastroenterology Unit with a focus on the Patient Family Centered Care model in an environment that exemplifies best practice. He/she will assist nurses and physicians in the care of these patients. The GI technician will procure and maintain equipment and supplies in collaboration with the Clinical Leader as well as perform secretarial duties as needed
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintains a clean, safe and organized environment for the cleaning and disinfection of scopes
- Cleans and disinfects endoscopes using established guidelines
- Greets patient and families in a professional manner
- Maintains and organizes supplies/ordering as needed
- Stocks and sets up rooms for the next day
- Assists nursing staff to provide support to ensure efficient and confidential flow of information.
- Communicates patient information to licensed nurse in a timely manner
- Enters accurate demographic information in to computer in procedure rooms
- Answers telephone and screens calls in a courteous manner. Relays accurate messages to appropriate personnel.
- File and retrieve patient records, collate charts and deliver mail to mailroom.
- Assists nurses and physicians to facilitate efficient room turnover.
- Escorts patients to changing rooms. Assists patient with gowning and locking of valuables if necessary. Assists patients with redressing when appropriate to discharge.
- Assists the nurse with transfer of patients to procedure rooms from the waiting room and from the procedure room to the recovery area

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 year prior experience as nursing assistant or medical technician preferred
