Substation Welder/Skilled Labor

Overview

Responsible for assisting with other craft workers in physical labor on jobsites while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient construction site and supporting the overall project. 

Responsibilities

• Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
• Complete all required Safety documentation
• Must be able to be able to pass Aluminum Welding Certification Test
• Read and understand Blueprints/IFC’s
• Weld Aluminum Bus pipe and conductor
• Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to load, offload, push and pull
• Level earth to fine grade specifications using shovel or other hand tool
• Work from heights (aerials lifts) and perform activities required to assist in assembly, mechanical completion, and construction of substations
• Uses taglines to control suspended loads during assembly of substation components
• Bolts, nails, screws, aligns, torques, tensions parts associated with substation construction
• Work in excavations to install grounding conductor, conduits, vaults, etc.
• Position, join, align, and connect junction boxes, insulators, arresters, above ground conduits/conductors, and other mechanical or stationary parts inside a substation
• Have some knowledge of, or be willing to learn operation of small to medium equipment (i.e., backhoe, skid steer, mini excavator, telehandler, aerial lift, compaction equipment, trencher, etc.)
• Perform tasks involving use of tools and hands such as welding bus pipe, welding stranded conductor, torquing/tensioning bolts and studs, assembling metal parts
• Provide assistance on the site as needed
• Perform care and maintenance of assigned tools
• Perform physical labor on construction sites
• May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited (Travel 95%)
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and six to twelve months of related experience in construction
• Or equivalent combination of training and experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to perform these operations using units, weight measurement and volume
• Ability to understand units of force, pressure and torque and apply appropriate tooling adjustments for each
• Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
• Be able to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
