Job Summary
The Fiber Splicer connects, rearranges, repairs, and maintains outside cable, including copper, fiber, and coax, to supply and maintain good service. This position supports the Splicing team on our travel crews. Per diem will be provided to traveling employees.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- May repair and dig up cable when no equipment is available.
- Connects and rearranges cable facilities; utilizes special test equipment to test for and locate trouble and perform cable completion tests.
- Reads and interprets work prints and diagrams and remains familiar with current practices.
- Loads tools and materials; works from ladder or manlift as needed, enters confined spaces, rides, and drives in vehicle, stands, or sits for long periods of time.
- Be able to distinguish colors.
- May be required to complete driver logs and associated documents.
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed; may be required to work long hours during emergency situations including nighttime splicing.
- Follows all safety practices and procedures.
- Directly responsible for all personal actions and any personnel, vehicles or equipment in the care, custody, or control.
- Report any personal or vehicle/equipment accidents/incidents immediately to supervisors, corporate and assist in the investigation of same.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Knowledge of cable size, gauge, count, and colors of direction
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and follow directions
- Ability to operate construction equipment
- Ability and willingness to understand and comply with safety rules and regulations
- Basic computer skills
- Valid driver’s license.
- Possess a valid CDL (A) license or be able to attain one.
- OSHA 10-hour course required.
