Job Summary
This position will provide engineering for the design of substation facilities for voltages up to and including 500 kV. This includes new substations and switch yards, modifications, additions, and upgrades to existing facilities. Substation physical design responsibilities include overall engineering and analysis for new switch yards and substations, additions, and modifications. Includes equipment specifications and procurement support, layout and general arrangements for all major equipment and structures required for high voltage switch yards or substation.
Responsibilities
- Provide detailed design including:
- substation grounding calculations and studies
- lightning protection and insulation coordination
- lighting
- bus calculations
- transformer and bus sizing calculations
- fault calculations
- AC and DC auxiliary system sizing calculations
- Relay protection & control engineering, including:
- one & three-line diagrams
- schematics and wiring diagram
- control and relay panel layouts
- SCADA
- Track emerging engineering technologies and standards to improve design efficiencies and quality
- Participate in industry organizations to stay current with business trends
- Setting and maintaining technical and safety practices
- Ensuring project schedules and goals are met
- Working with other engineering teams to meet customer requirements
Qualifications
Minimum
- Understanding of a matrix management environment
- Significant experience in the Electric Utility arena
- Four-year engineering or technical degree
- Computer proficient including AutoCAD
Preferred
- 10 years of relevant design experience in Substation Engineering
- PE License
- Experience with ETAP, CAPE, CYME, ASPEN or similar software

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners.
