Respiratory Team Leader
The Respiratory Team Leader:
· Must be able to perform all the duties of a RRT or CRT.
· Is responsible for leading the daily operation and staffing of the Respiratory Care Services and the delivery of care it provides. These duties are performed as appropriately prescribed by a physician, directed by the policy and procedures or protocols of the hospital and department.
· Provides for the assignment of all RCPs assigned to the shift. Will assign each therapist a full workload appropriate to their shift length. The team leader will be assigned a workload with a 25% decrease in order to carry out the duties described.
· Provides adjustments of the work schedule for all shifts to assure an equitable workload, with input from staff, in accordance with department workload and budgetary constraints to maintain a Productivity of 100%.
· Will be aware of all new patients ordered for Respiratory Care, making certain orders meet approved criteria. The team leader will work with the RCP assigned to the patient assuring adherence to department policies.
· Will print, update and review treatment lists for accuracy, appropriate utilization of frequently used respiratory therapy modalities reviewing charts in question.
· May be called upon to assist in assessment and resolution of difficult patient care situations.
· Assists with spot-checking and troubleshooting of possibly malfunctioning equipment.
· Helps monitor the Department’s use of supplies and/or equipment and informs Supervisor and/or Director as appropriate.
· Assists with rotation of RT students through the Department and hospital as appropriate.
· Provides input for yearly criteria-based evaluations for all Respiratory Care Employees.
· Is a contributing and involved member of the department’s interdisciplinary continuous quality improvement efforts.
· Communicates individual concerns to Respiratory Supervisor and/or Director.
· Assists with acquisition of QA/PI information as assigned.
· Must be available and willing to perform other duties and/or responsibilities as directed and as necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the Department and hospital
· Reports to the Supervisor of RT and Director of Respiratory Services
· Assists with the day to day operations of the ABG Lab.
· Daily ABG maintenance and QC as assigned.
· Checks eyewash station weekly, monitor and record refrigerator temperature and cleanliness as assigned.
· Trouble shooting analyzer and communicating with technical support.
· CAPS proficiency testing six (6) times each year for blood gases and CO-OX as assigned.
· Keeps precise, accurate, and organized records in compliance with JCAHO and CLIA standards. Must participate in JCAHO inspection.
· Works closely with the Supervisor of RT/ABG Lab Coordinator, Director of Respiratory Services, Laboratory QC Coordinator and POC Coordinator to ensure all data is current, accurate and ABG Lab is functioning properly as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
License/Certifications
· Current Alabama RCP License
· Actively certified or registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
· Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification required
· NPS, NRP encouraged and preferred
· Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) is due at time of Team Leader assignment
· Current employee of Respiratory Services at Cullman Regional will be considered first
Education
· Must be a graduate of a recognized COARC or AMA program / Associate’s Degree required
· BS preferred
Experience
· 5 Years previous hospital experience preferred
· Emergency Room, Critical Care, and Pediatric experience required
