Design Group Leader - EI&C

Job Summary

The EI&C Design Group Leader provides day-to-day supervision of all Drafters, Designers and Checkers within their group. They have complete responsibility on all assigned jobs to obtain necessary information, coordinate project needs with Construction and the Shop, and assure drawings are produced and checked properly. This also includes responsibility for issuing jobs on time and within budget.

Essential Functions

• Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”

• Directly supervise all Drafters, Designers and Checkers within a discipline of the engineering/design group.
• Assure that all work produced by their squad is correct, meets the project requirements and all current standards and procedures are followed.
• Review all jobs when received to determine scope of work and man-hour estimates.
• Determine ability to meet required schedule. Responsible for meeting schedules and estimates.
• Keep management informed of job status pertaining to schedule and budget, as well as staffing availability and/or needs.
• Research and provide solutions for problems and errors found by the shop and field personnel.
• Conduct training on job requirements specific to their division.
• Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating and terminating subordinate personnel.
• Perform duties of Checker, as needed.
• Perform additional responsibilities, as directed.

Qualifications

• 8 years of related 2D and 3D drafting and design experience; previous supervisory or lead experience highly preferred.
• Demonstrable success in industrial power distribution projects including medium voltage utility tie in down through low voltage facility distribution is required; such experience in the Oil and Gas industry is preferred.
• Strong customer service orientation and good problem-solving abilities.
• Advanced AutoCAD knowledge; experience with AVEVA platform preferred.
• Understanding of PFD’s and P&ID’s; 3D and 2D routing and modeling; development of complete electrical power distribution construction drawing and specification packages.
• Proficiency in IEEE, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Strong understanding of various drafting disciplines such electrical, instrumentation and controls experience.
• General understanding of fabrication, purchasing, and field construction.
• Ability to understand and use general math and advanced trigonometry functions.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines.
• Exhibit excellent listening, oral and written skills; ability to prepare and make project-related presentations to clients is desirable.

• Occasional overtime may be required.
