Job Description Summary
Java Developer will work in the IT department of NIH DEA NCI while designing, implementing, and maintaining Java-based software and applications, contributing to all stages of the software development life cycle. They thoroughly analyze user requirements, envision system features, and define application functionality and work closely with the Graphic Designers and other development staff to ensure website applications collaborate well with their design elements. They will evaluate the needs of users and analyze any technical issues to program highly functional systems. Developer will also be responsible for staying updated on developments in web applications and constantly train themselves to learn new coding languages.
Job Summary
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the development team to implement a specified application design within the constraints of the technical solution and work to find compromises when desired designs cannot be achieved.
- Investigate and resolve bugs and deficiencies in the product codebase. Debug and document existing programs as needed.
- Build and maintains internal tools to streamline the software development process and enhance productivity.
- Provide technical support to the help desk and directly to end users for more advanced user issues.
- Participate in code reviews, to review for accuracy and enforce coding best practices and coding standards.
Minimum Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in related field; experience would be considered in lieu of degree
- 2-3 years of overall experience
- 2-3 years of Java experience
- 2-3 years of Oracle PL/SQL Database experience
- 2-3 years of Java-Script experience
Preferred Skills:
- 1-2 years Web service development experience (RESTful) experience
- 1-2 years Apache HTTP server experience
Additional Requirments:
Able to pass a public trust clearance
Willing to relocate or local to Bethesda, MD
100% for now; in the future 1 day a week in person
