Position Summary
The Crane Service Technician is a front-line employee with direct customer contact. In addition to technical skills, people skills are vital for effective customer relationship management and decision making.
Job Duties
- Troubleshoot and repair customer cranes and crane systems and other lifting components as directed
- Install various types of cranes, hoists, components, and parts
- Modernize or upgrade various types of cranes, hoists, components, and parts
- Load test and /or perform non-destructive testing various types of cranes, hoists, components, and parts
- Sets up, operates, and maintains all service equipment
- Responsible for working safely and in accordance with customer, company, and OSHA requirements
- Communicate findings to the customer and gives a clear understanding of the day's work accomplished before leaving the jobsite; obtain written confirmation (signature) of critical findings from the customer before leaving the jobsite
- Review, interpret, and understand various crane type codes and inspection criteria
- Inspect hoists, cranes, crane systems, chain falls, pullers, slings, and below-the-hook devices
- Record the results of inspections neatly and accurately so that repair criteria is clearly evident
- Complete daily paperwork accurately including time entry, service reports, inspection reports, and sales lead generation in Service Pro
- Complete or assist with special projects as requested
- Assist Service Writers understanding completed inspection reports and service tickets to formulate quotes
- Keep training assignments current
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education
A high school diploma or GED required; vocational-technical school or crane training program, trade school, equivalent military experience or technical college training program preferred
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a maintenance organization
- Must have strong mechanical background and be able to quickly diagnose crane-related problems and accurately propose effective remedies
- Proficient knowledge of electrical theory for power and controls associated within the crane industry
- Willingness to stay educated in the crane industry; as cranes become increasingly sophisticated, service techs need to be increasingly computer literate and technologically savvy
- Excellent communication skills to build customer relationships
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities; highly organized
- Valid driver’s license in good standing that meets company requirements
- Flexible work schedule to meet customer's scheduling requirements; unexpected working hours are a common occurrence
- Must be able to lift/pull up to 75 lbs
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check, physical, drug screen and E-verify
