What are the responsibilities and job description for the TPP Recovery Coach position at MCCA, Inc.?
MCCA, Inc., a premium substance use treatment/mental health organization has an immediate opening for a Recovery Coach for our Torrington Treatment Pathways Program to work with those clients referred for services through the Torrington Courthouse. The Recovery Coach will utilize client-centered planning tools, supporting and guiding the clients in tasked outlined in the Recovery Plan, especially those goals related to education, employment, individual wellness and community involvement.
Major Responsibilities:
- The Recovery Coach will provide instruction and skill training in recovery management to clients and their families and will participate in rehabilitative and recovery focused interventions to meet client requirements and goals.
- The Recovery Coach will support clients with valuable psycho-education to help overcome obstacles to recovery, and to encourage their participation in group activities and networks relating to community engagement. They will also organize and conduct workshops for clients on topics related to recovery and wellness.
- The Recovery Coach will work as a peer to assist with the client’s overall well-being, providing wellness information, to involve clients who have (or may be at risk for) co-morbid medical conditions in various wellness activities. Additionally, the Recovery coach will support clients dealing with both internal and external stresses; joining the client at medical and/or clinical appointments in a peer capacity; accompanying the client on potential volunteer opportunities and activities.
- The Recovery Coach will work collaboratively with the client to provide motivational engagement, connecting the client with the appropriate resources as indicated by the Recovery Coach’s supervisor. The Recovery Coach will partner with MCCA counseling and treatment staff, community health care, and social services organizations to facilitate the engagement of clients appropriate to their particular needs.
- The Recovery Coach will observe and report clients’ behavior; preparing and submitting related forms; updates to clients’ notes in the medical record as required; utilizing computerized data as required and work in full compliance with HIPAA and federal and state confidentiality regulations.
- The Recovery Coach may provide outreach and transportation; and performs related duties as required.

Position Requirements:
- The Recovery Coach must be willing to publicly self- identify as being in recovery from a mental health, substance use or addiction diagnosis
- Recovery Coach must be willing to share his/her own story of recovery as an inspiration to others
- The Recovery Coach must be able to obtain and maintain certification
- The Recovery Coach should be able to take direction, be prompt, take initiative, complete tasks as assigned, and be able to work effectively as part of a team
- The Recovery Coach should be articulate, and have good communication skills
- The Recovery Coach agrees to adhere to the Code of Ethics
- The Recovery Coach should have at minimum a basic understanding of: The concept of recovery as it relates to behavioral health, Peer support, Wellness and recovery planning
- Local travel will be required for this position.
- Recovery Coach must have a reliable vehicle. (Mileage is reimbursed).
- Participate in staff, community and program meetings. Work regularly with law enforcement and community partners.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision.
- Collect date and complete reports in a timely manner.
- Recovery Coach will report to the Program Director.
Qualifications:
- Recovery Coach Certificate from CCAR Recovery Coach Academy, or other recognized certification program, or become certified within six months of employment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work with a complex interdisciplinary team. Knowledge and skills related to individual, group, and family system dynamics.
- Must have a valid Connecticut driver’s license and daily access to a car in order to attend meetings and complete work assignments in the community.
