We are currently looking to add a confident, committed, detailed oriented and ambitious Trainee / Assistant Surveyor to our existing multi-disciplined Commercial Team in Hatfield.
The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced Commercial Team to support the efficient and effective management of costs related to construction projects.
You should have / be studying a relevant Quantity Surveying qualification; have experience relevant to the commercial aspects of multi-discipline projects;
and can demonstrate good general Construction, Health & Safety legislation knowledge and best practices.

The Role
As an Assistant Surveyor, you will be preparing and maintaining the subcontracting database and procurement schedule and collating tendering information for subcontractor enquiries.
As part of your development, you will be involved in Tendering and Budget creation and conduct cost analysis for construction projects, including materials, labour, and overheads.
This exciting new position will see the post holder initially working on our site in Southend, Essex and contribute towards providing strong commercial influence on wider project teams to drive a consistent commercial approach within the division.
You will attend site meetings, collaborate with project teams to track, and manage project costs throughout the construction process whilst assisting with achieving accurate financial control of individual sites in accordance with Company policies.
Whilst the role will be based out of our Hatfield office, we have adopted a hybrid way of working which typically requires 2 or 3 days a week on site, with the remainder working from the office or home.
Your Attributes
You will have :
- Professional RICS accredited degree desirable. Minimum A level / HNC (including GCSE Maths and English grades A C) and have a valid CSCS Card.
- Ideally have relevant experience of Surveying role
- Knowledgeable on standard industry trade and build specification; familiar with and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all National and Regional materials / purchasing agreements.
- Knowledge and experience of contract conditions desirable. Must undertake training as a minimum.
You will bring :
- A working knowledge of Information Technology commensurate with fulfilling the requirements of the role, including use of Microsoft Office suite.
- Able to organise and prioritise workload and to adapt to tight deadlines
- Excellent relationship management skills : resilient, calm under pressure including during interaction with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving capability
