Overview

McCormick Taylor is seeking an Environmental Scientist II to join our Energy/Utilities group. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative team environment.  We are seeking an individual who can handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and work well in a remote office environment. Strong written, interpersonal and oral communication skills, attention to detail and ability to organize is required. This position will include both field and office assignments. Previous experience collaborating with team members virtually is preferred. Note that this position is primarily remote, but the candidate will be expected to report to an office on an occasional basis in Newark, DE.

 

This position will consist primarily of field work on Energy Utility projects located within 1 hour of McCormick Taylor’s Newark, DE office, but may also include field work in a wider geography on occasion.  Previous experience collaborating with team members virtually is preferred. Knowledge of Soil Erosion & Sediment Control Plan interpretation, and documentation of compliance with construction permit plans is strongly preferred; experience with stormwater management facility construction, maintenance and inspections beneficial. Regulatory agency interaction experience is a plus. Experience providing oversight of constructions projects is not required but preferred.

 

The position will primarily include environmental regulatory and permitting compliance inspections on active construction projects and stormwater management inspections in MD, DE, NJ, and PA. Strict adherence to prescribed safety protocols on active construction sites is essential. The position may also include development and review of permit applications as well as other natural resource related field work for linear projects.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and documents environmental compliance of large-scale construction activities.
  • Perform routine and post rain inspections of stormwater management inspections.
  • Communicate daily with project teams (internal, contractor, owner, etc.), verbally and in writing.
  • Strict adherence to personal protective equipment and safety protocol requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources or a related field
  • 4-7 years of professional experience
  • Detailed knowledge of Erosion and Sediment Control Practices
  • Delaware Certified Construction Reviewer certification is preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of Post Construction Stormwater Management Practices
  • Ability to utilize GPS, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office for project data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrates a strong willingness to learn about their respective discipline
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audiences
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment
  • Must have the ability to work in the field in different weather conditions
  • Must be able to physically navigate in the field
  • Occasional weekend and holiday work may be required.
