The role of the National Real Estate Lead is to work as a member of the home office Center of Excellence for McDonald’s Real Estate. The focus of the position is manage a team of deal-makers for a specified geography and contribute to the overall new site inventory goals of the National Real Estate team and U.S. Restaurant Development. The position requires collaboration at a National level with the Field Development Teams to deliver the new store opening plan, improve real estate processes, establish, and participate in or lead presentations at CoOp meetings, annual Field Inventory Reviews and various other planning meetings. The National Real Estate Lead also works with various teams in home office that support development, including Legal, Finance, and Strategy & Analytics and ensures that their teams understand and uphold the processes, policies and standards required throughout the real estate development cycle.
**The National Real Estate Lead will be responsible for territories in our Stamford and Bethesda Field Offices. The position requires at least 50% travel and is a remote position.**
The primary roles of the National Real Estate Lead
Lead team of National Real Estate Manager’s, across large geographies, in the acquisition of sites for new and relocation restaurants.
Develop & Manage relationships with property owners, retailers and shopping center owners while proactively generating new real estate opportunities through Opportunity Real Estate
Manage other initiatives that may include Travel Center offerings, with Pilot and Love’s and the deal flow through the deal process
Plan and execute initiatives and projects developed in home office.
Position Purpose
Supports USRD Real Estate Director throughout the US in the Opportunity Real Estate, Training, Acquisition Strategies and Execution of the National New Store Plan.
Is accountable for proactively developing and maintaining relationships with Landlords, Developers, Brokers and other industry leaders and leading a team of deal-makers to ensure a strong pipeline of new and relo inventory.
Key Customers include US Restaurant Development, Group and Regional Development Leadership, and Regional Real Estate Teams.
Principal Accountabilities
In addition to following McDonald’s policies and procedures, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Development Plan Contribution
Collaborate with Field Development teams on Development Plans in the area of traditional Signings, Releases and Openings
Relationships
Create a national network of real estate property owners consisting of retailers, developers, REITs and other portfolio property owners that provide site specific data on their portfolio holdings.
Cultivates and promotes working relationships with portfolio owners through the attendance and participation in meetings and conferences of national organizations.
Collaborate with other internal partners to include Finance, Legal, Strategy & Analytics.
Collaborate with Field Development Teams regarding new/relo inventory that may include field/site tours, Real Estate Committee presentations, team project alignment meetings and similar activities
Group and Regional Support
Collaborate with FET’s/ Regions in building new and relo real estate inventory.
Attend FET’s Regional LTRE and Vision Planning to contribute and act as a conduit to the National Real Estate team.
Support FET/ Regional Real Estate teams in the utilization of available tools, including PMO Navigator, Excel and google products.
Partner with WWD and PMO Team to leverage technology and maintain portfolio databases to include Opportunity Real Estate, Long Term Real Estate Planning, and Pre-Inventory Tracking.
May include managing the new store offering process for Travel Centers
Assess Small Town Opportunities
Plan, in collaboration with MHQ teams, market plans/tours to accelerate new store growth in high opportunity markets

- BA/BS Degree preferred or equivalent work experience
- Experience in new, ground up developments
- Experience in a leadership role managing 2 or more people preferred
- Commercial real estate experience with an emphasis on site acquisition in a multi-tenant retail market
- Contract administration and negotiation experience
- Experience in successful team leadership and goal achievement in a corporate real estate in a corporate setting
- Experience in analyzing and researching markets for development of high volume restaurant locations
- Good networking and established industry relationships
- Proficiency in basic computer applications including Excel, PowerPoint and proprietary mapping and demographic applications
