JOB DESCRIPTION : PRIMARY PURPOSE :
PRIMARY PURPOSE :
Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of one or more certified teachers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers when needed
Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports
Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy
Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
Participate in staff development training programs, bilingual staff development, faculty meetings, and special events
Perform other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
None
EQUIPMENT USED :
Personal computer, printer, copier, technology equipment and devices as acquired by the district
Occasional use of specialized equipment, as appropriate

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluations of At-Will employees.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE :
Experience working with children preferred
REQUIREMENTS :
Education / Certification :
High School Diploma or GED equivalency and a minimum of 48 semester hours of college credit or an Associate’s Degree
Certification by another school district of meeting the NCLB Highly Qualified by assessment requirements will be accepted in lieu of college credit
Educational Aide Certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification within one year of employment
Special Knowledge and Skills :
Ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively
General knowledge of office equipment
