Burn Table Operator

Description

Function Summary:

Primary focus is to operate the burning table/laser cutting machines (either or both) to produce parts to be used in the fabrication and assembly of equipment. Secondary functions include, but are not limited to, operation of other equipment as needed and performing light maintenance on the burning table/laser cutter.

Essential Functions/Key Accountabilities:          

1. Follow direction provided by department supervisor.
2. Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to, and enforcing, all safety procedures and policies inside and outside the facility, including use of personal protective and McLanahan equipment as required.
3. Represent McLanahan Corporation in a positive manner both internally and externally while adhering to the organization’s core values.
4. Communicate effectively with co-workers, management, customers, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
5. Load/Unload material to/from the burning table, plasma cutting table, and laser machine as needed.
6. Ability to unload trucks from vendors.
7. Operate overhead crane to move material.
8. Cut scrap material as needed.
9. Program machines to cut material as required.
10. Maintain a clean work area utilizing 5S principles and daily organizational skills.
11. Produce material within prescribed standards for both quality and timeliness
12. Demonstrated ability to read and understand blue prints.
13. Experience working in a team environment and communicating between shifts.
14. Ability to complete cross training on other equipment and procedures throughout the department as determined by management.
15. Familiar with thermal torch and plasma torch operations and the applications with metal up to 3 inches in thickness.
16. Familiar with acetylene torch techniques to cut materials as required.
17. Able to identify steel plates, beams, channel, angle, and round and flat stock.

Qualifications

Educational/Other Requirements:

1. Prior experience reading and understanding blue prints to build a product.
2. Two (2) – four (4) years of similar experience in a heavy manufacturing environment and operating a burn table/laser cutting machine.
3. Prior experience using hand tools to measure products.
4. Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
5. Ability to work overtime as needed.
6. Prior experience operating an overhead craned and safety rigging materials.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Basic computer skills.
9. Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
10. Ability to successfully reach company goals in an environment in which a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
11. High School diploma or equivalent (GED) or other sufficient training/experience.

Physical Requirements:

This position is typically located in a manufacturing setting and requires standing for long periods of time.   Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, visual acuity to use a keyboard. Requires the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of verbal communication. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
