Job Posting for Faculty - Instructor of Chemistry at MCPHS University

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks a 12-month full-time faculty member to develop curricula and deliver high quality chemistry laboratory learning experiences to first-year college students enrolled in pre-medical, pre-pharmacy, and other undergraduate programs. Subject matters may include General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Basic Chemistry lab courses. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across the University as well as with the Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences. Additionally, the incumbent provides mentorship to students and contributes to the visibility, impact and reputation of the University and its programs. Rank will be commensurate with education and experience.

  • Designs and provides instruction for first-year chemistry laboratory course sequences with an enrollment of approximately 400-600 students per semester
  • Provides assignments and assessments that demonstrate real-world applications of concepts covered
  • Delivers engaging instruction via multiple possible formats (in-person, online, and/or in a flipped format)
  • Uses the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, grades and other materials to communicate with students
  • Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments through University-approved mechanisms
  • Strives to stimulate learning and actively seek advancement of teaching and learning processes
  • Works collaboratively with the Chemistry Faculty to improve students’ academic and scientific abilities/skills and reviews curriculum needs and offerings
  • Attends and participates in School and Department meetings, University ceremonies, Admission Open Houses, and other student recruitment events, and serves as a member of University, School and/or Department committees, if applicable
  • Works effectively with Administrators, Faculty, Adjunct Faculty, Graduate and Undergraduate Assistants, to ensure effective delivery of undergraduate chemistry lab content
  • Supports incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities
  • Develops recommendations and collaborate with the University Director of Environmental Health and Safety to improve lab course delivery
  • Attends Open House or other events, as needed
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Department Chair or by the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences
Required:
  • Masters degree in chemistry or related discipline
  • Experience teaching undergraduate College laboratory sections, both in-person and remotely; 3 years preferred
  • Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability or interest in teaching large-enrollment laboratory courses
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate active learning strategies
  • Knowledge of best teaching practices
  • Ability to effectively use technology tools to support student learning, such as the Blackboard learning management system
  • Strong innovative and collaborative skills
  • Ability to use MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work both as a member of a team and as a team leader
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals)
