Overview
The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Tech is responsible for operating and maintaining two (2) on-site industrial WWTPs, the Casting WWTP and the Recycle Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP are critical infrastructure that provide water for the process water loop and cooling water loop. Treated water produced by the Casting WWTP is routinely discharged to the local Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW). The WWTP Operator is also responsible for operating the large street sweeper and the small indoor sweeper. The large street sweeper is used to clean on-site roadways and minimize the potential for off-site dust tracking or fugitive emissions. The small street sweeper is used to clean floors inside the production building and is an essential tool to help maintain good housekeeping in the production building.
Ensures discharges from the Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP are in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Responsibilities include sampling, on-site testing, monitoring, and recordkeeping. Conducts operator preventative maintenance and repairs. Ensures wastes generated at the Casting WWTP, Recycle WTP, and during sweeping operations are disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines. Works during an assigned shift in a safe, continuous and efficient manner while maintaining environmental, safety, and housekeeping standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Inspects the Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP at a minimum frequency of once every two hours. More frequently if necessary or if requested by supervisor.
· Records daily meter readings, inspection results, test results, calibrations, inventories, chemical feed rates, water levels and other data as required on daily checklists.
· Monitors processes and equipment utilizing gauges and instrumentation.
· Monitors chemical additions at the Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP.
· Oversees off-loading of chemicals and changeover of chemical containers.
· Conducts inventory of all chemicals and supplies daily/weekly. Notifies Environmental Department staff when chemical orders are needed.
· Monitors filter presses at the Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP during plant operation. Empties and cleans filter presses as needed. Notifies Environmental Department staff when roll-offs need to be swapped out.
· Operates forklift, large sweeper, and small sweeper. Documents hours logged on the large and small sweepers on forms provided by Environmental Department staff.
· Assists in maintenance of the WWTP which may include tearing down and repairing sludge pumps, chemical pumps, valves, plugged piping; cleaning clarifiers and containments.
· Cleans the sludge overflow tank on a minimum of a daily basis.
· Completes routine environmental and safety inspections and other documentation as necessary.
· Maintains good housekeeping at the Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP. Good housekeeping practices include cleaning up sludge, water, or chemical spills promptly, maintaining appropriate aisle space around electrical panels, storing flammable chemicals in designated cabinets, and storing water treatment chemicals on spill pallets or inside secondary containment berms.
· Coordinates with off-site analytical laboratory and Environmental Department personnel to setup a composite sampler during monthly sampling events at the Casting WWTP.
· Cleans and calibrates pH probes at the Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP and other instrumentation, including turbidity or conductivity sensors, as needed.
· Monitors and maintains a sufficient concentration of residual bromine in the Casting Machine A and Melt Center Cooling Towers. Refills bromine feeders as needed.
· Monitors and maintains proper sludge concentration in the Casting WWTP clarifier.
· Prepares batch mixtures of powdered or pelletized lime and water for pH correction at the Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP. Ensures lime tank does not overfill during batch production.
· Collects representative samples of Casting WWTP or Recycle WTP filter cake for waste characterization analysis as needed.
· Troubleshoots operational issues which include equipment malfunctioning, chemical feed adjustments, and water balancing to maintain compliance.
· Monitors equipment for potential failures and submits maintenance request for any needed repairs.
· Conducts operator preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.
· Assists in maintenance of the Casting WWTP and Recycle WTP which may include tearing down and repairing sludge pumps, chemical pumps, valves, plugged piping, cleaning clarifiers and containments.
· May be required to respond to off-hour alarms.
· Keeps supervisor informed of problems as they arise.
· Promptly reports releases of chemicals, water, and/or sludge that may impact facility roadways or storm drains to supervisor.
· Fosters positive work relationships.
· Works in a safe manner and complies with all Company policies, procedures and practices.
· Completes required computer-based safety training (PureSafety) on-time.
· Completes initial and annual RCRA hazardous waste management training and initial and refresher (every three years) DOT training.

Education and/or Experience
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or wastewater treatment plant environment preferred.
· Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Existing License or Ability to Obtain NJDEP Industrial Wastewater Treatment System License within Two Years of Hire Preferred.
