McWane Inc. has a newly created division, McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI). This new division, based in Birmingham, AL, combines all Plant and Industrial Products in a single customer-focused package. We offer comprehensive solutions through an experienced team of professionals specifically focused on these two special markets. Our Mission is to be the Plant and Industrial supplier who is “easiest to do business with”.  We will make it easier to engineer, specify, and order components for plants.  We will provide greater support for smoother delivery, cost-effective installation, and start-up. Most importantly, we will build strong relationships with design engineers, contractors, plant operations teams, and project owners to assure we are their first-choice supplier for both new construction and future upgrades.

Starting Rate: $23.18

Top Rate: $25.24

24-month wage progression

Starting rate: $28.84 

Top rate: $31.93

Starting rate: $35.02

Top Rate: $38.11

24-month wage progression 

 

*Machinist classification will be evaluated based on skills and experience*

Description

McWane Plant and Industrial Calera Alabama is seeking CNC Machinists to join our Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The Machinist trains to operate CNC machines (lathes, VTL and mills). The Machinist’s primary responsibilities will be to set up machines, check products and keep production items running through the machine areas with quantity and quality acceptable to company standards. May also perform additional responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, cell support, finishing, and polishing.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members
  • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
  • Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection
  • Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area as well as maintaining a safe and clean work environment
  • Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles

CNC Machinist I

  • Responsible for loading and unloading parts, deburring parts and starting and stopping machine
  • Works under supervision, demonstrating a desire to and actively learning how to read blueprints, use appropriate measuring devices and change and manipulate and change inserts programs
  • Change inserts, touch of tools, load new fixtured and pull up correct prewritten programs
  • Modifying basic G-code and operation of CNC equipment and manual machines
  • Maintaining shop equipment
  • Maintaining stock materials and supplies to perform day-today tasks
  • Demonstrate quality craftsmanship, with a desire to produce the best quality components possible
  • Demonstrate a keen sense of continuous improvement to produce things quicker and better
  • Responsible for fluid level maintenance of the assigned machine while in operation
  • Follow all company policies with special regard to safety, quality control, regulatory and materials handling.
  • Receive individual training and mentorship on operations of CNC equipment. Set up machines, lathes, mills or other machining centers for the production of products. Training on regulatory requirement and current documentation practices.
  • Participate in ongoing process improvements
  • Inspect parts to required specifications utilizing precision measuring devices
  • Record production and maintain count cards.
  • May perform additional cell responsibilities as required.

CNC Machinist II

  • Change inserts, touch off tools, load new fixtures and pull up programs, inspect parts, make changes and write basic programs 
  • Independent parts setups, will have assistance with inspection and changes to programs for more complex operations 
  • Blueprint reading, understanding symbols and interpreting complex drawings 
  • Creating and modifying G-code and operation of CNC equipment and manual machines 
  • Maintaining shop equipment 
  • Maintaining stock materials and supplies to perform day-today tasks 
  • Demonstrate quality craftsmanship, with a desire to produce the best quality components possible 
  • Demonstrate a keen sense of continuous improvement to produce things quicker and better 
  • Responsible for fluid level maintenance of the assigned machine while in operation 
  • Follow all company policies with special regard to safety, quality control, regulatory and materials handling.  
  • Receive individual training and mentorship on operations of CNC equipment. Set up machines, lathes, mills or other machining centers for the production of products. Training on regulatory requirement and current documentation practices.

CNC Machinist III

  • Generate fixtures, programs and tooling selections using parts and blueprints 
  • Understands how to set up and move to a different machine to optimize production 
  • Uses proper lifting and ergo techniques 
  • Blueprint reading, understanding symbols and interpreting complex drawings 
  • Setting up either castings or fabrications 
  • Creating G-code programs and operation of CNC equipment and manual machines 
  • Maintaining shop equipment 
  • Maintaining stock materials and supplies to perform day-today tasks 
  • Demonstrate quality craftsmanship, with a desire to produce the best quality components possible 
  • Demonstrate a keen sense of continuous improvement to produce things quicker and better 
  • Responsible for fluid level maintenance of the assigned machine while in operation 
  • Follow all company policies with special regard to safety, quality control, regulatory and materials handling.

Work Environment: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.  
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and determine and distinguish color.

Qualifications

Qualifications 

 

CNC Machinist I

  • 0-4 years of experience in a similar role
  • Enrolled or participating in a CNC Machining program; high school diploma/GED required
  • Computer skills required
  • Must possess minimum skillset of a Machine Operator

CNC Machinist II

  • 3-7 years of experience in a similar role 
  • Proficiency in CNC operations preferred 
  • Computer skills required 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred; high school diploma/GED required 

CNC Machinist III

  • 7-10 years of experience in a similar role 
  • Proficiency in CNC operations preferred 
  • Computer skills required 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred; high school diploma/GED required 

 

Position Requirements

  • Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are some of the physical requirements.
  • Must be able to meet and adhere physical requirements as well as adhere to wearing the appropriate PPE (steel toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection and mask).
  • Will be required to work in the following conditions: heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
  • Must be able to work in dust and fumes.
  • Must have the ability to operate forklift or overhead crane.
  • Will be required to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
  • Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
