The Immunotherapy Platform (IMT), anchored in the Department of Immunology, is comprised of over 70 scientists and staff who are managing over 100 immunotherapy clinical trials for immune monitoring. We are seeking a highly driven and dynamic pathologist to join the IMT leadership team.


KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Directs the scientific investigations and manages overall operations of the IMT immunopathology laboratory
    Leads a team of Research Scientists (MD, PhDs), Research Investigators (PhDs), Sr. Research Assistants (Bachelors and Masters) and Research Histology Technicians, in project prioritization, goals, and decision-making
  • Designs and implements projects to be conducted within IMT, in collaboration with other IMT leadership, IMT Executive Committee members, and others as appropriate
  • Reads, scores, and analyzes tissue slides. Provides analysis and presentations
  • Collects and examines immunopathology data according to the tissue type/diagnosis/treatment responses/and other clinical data. Collaborates and advises internal and external collaborators to solve any issues and interpret laboratory results within the framework of related studies/projects.
  • Provides raw analysis and summary/conclusion-driven presentations to the platform and others as appropriate
  • Follows the literature and explores new fields of pathology research to merge with immunology research at IMT. Contributes to the development of new procedures and methods, such as comprehensive immune-profiling in various tumor types
  • Provides expertise and education relating to immunopathology assays, including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in-situ hybridization, and ground-breaking state of the art technologies such as Imaging Mass Spectrometry systems
  • Develops and utilizes a quality approach to develop IHC, IF and multiplex IF staining protocols and testing of new molecular biomarkers that provide accurate and reliable test results for internal and external collaborators (pharmaceuticals and/or institutions)
  • Collaborates with clinical pathologists to combine molecular pathology evaluation with diagnostics as required
  • Directs, coordinates and/or delegates the collection and examination of immunopathology data, evaluates and implements solutions pertaining to the scientific questions being addressed
  • Provides pathology research support and specific assay development for the study of newly discovered molecular biomarkers
  • Recruits, hires, and trains new staff as needed
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recommends vendors and equipment for pathology-based biomarker testing and analysis. Introduces and oversees implementation of new experimental histology techniques/technologies to answer key questions surrounding disease biology and compound activity
  • Authors, reviews, and approves pathology data for publication in peer-reviewed journals

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred: MD (Foreign or US) and/or PhD, or DVM

Experience

Required: Seven years relevant research experience to include two years in a supervisory/managerial capacity. With preferred Masters degree, five years of required experience to include two years in a supervisory/managerial capacity and with preferred PhD, three years of required experience to include two years in a supervisory/managerial capacity.

Preferred: Extensive experience using histology and immunohistochemistry techniques, quantification and morphometry. Extensive expertise in the use of digital cameras, bright light, fluorescence microscope etc. Proven experience in the use of digital imaging systems, scanscope, and use of digital image analysis software for histo-pathologic image analysis and quantification such as Halo and Inform. Experience in mIF equipments such as Vectra/Polaris. Familiarity with or motivated in gaining expertise in novel technologies for multiplexing such as CODEX Extensive knowledge of molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of cancer and molecular pathology, with experience in methodologies pertaining to molecular and cellular pathology.
