Clinical Psychologist for Fort Belvoir Community Hospital and the Directorate of Behavioral Health (DBH)
- Full-time, civilian position
About the Department:
The DBH has two inpatient wards, two partial hospitalization programs (including the DoD’s only adolescent PHP), a comprehensive Brain Injury center, and five outpatient clinics that provide treatment for beneficiaries of all ages. DBH also offers a full spectrum of addiction services.
Qualifications of the Clinical Psychologist:
Degree/Education: Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program.
Licensure/Registration: Must have and maintain an active, unrestricted, current license to practice Clinical Psychology in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands that allow for the independent practice of clinical services.
Experience: Must have a minimum of two years of experience working as a Clinical Psychologist, and will have practiced as a Clinical Psychologist within the last two years.
- Experience in Evidence-based therapies such as CBT, CPT, DBT, PE, MI, EMDR, and REC is expected.
- Be able to administer psychological testing.
- Be willing to learn bio feedback therapy and new psychotherapy treatments.
- Must be willing to collect data and do analysis.
Preferred: Experience in a Government setting such as DOD or Department of Veteran. Affairs (VA) facility and providing clinical services to individuals, couples and/or groups in clinical psychotherapy services.
Duties of the Clinical Psychologist:
- Provides care to patients of the Directorate of Behavioral Health in inpatient, partial hospitalization and outpatient settings, to include treatment for addiction.
- Conducts psychological evaluations and provides therapeutic interventions including crisis counseling to individuals, groups and families as needed to facilitate behavioral health clinical care management and optimize care in addiction medicine.
- Performs psychological testing, to include testing for PTSD, personality disorders, cognitive disorders, and malingering.
- Evaluates the impact of diagnosis or lack of diagnosis with unexplained chronic symptoms on individual and family system as well as assess patient' s functioning within work, family, and routines of daily living and identify areas needing continued support, resources, and treatment in order to assist patients.
- Assess and resolves complex social, economic and psychological problems that may impact on service members and their families medical treatment by providing direct clinical services, to include substance abuse and psychological screening, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral, consultation and education
Hours/Schedule:
- 80 hours per two weeks, schedule can vary.
- The normal hours of work are Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00am to 9:00
- Shifts may vary 8, or 10 hour to include day and evenings

Requirements:

Responsibilities:
- Assess the needs of the client and his or her family to provide treatment solutions using scientific research data
- Develop treatment plans using scientific research data, including the principles of human behavior psychology, neuropsychology, and social work principles.
- Designing personalized treatment methods to meet the specific needs of each client. - - utilizing an array of interventions.
- Provide assistance for clients in daily tasks such as reading, getting medications or other needed supplies, getting help with physical therapy exercises, etc. - - they themselves may be in the way of continuing their own treatment progress.
- Meet regularly with clients to update their treatment plans, discuss progress, and provide assistance in living them out their goals. - - including reviewing their history of treatment failures. Evaluate individual progress and provide feedback for improvement. Maintain documentation per state and federal regulations. Keeps residents’ medical records updated in accordance with federal and state regulations. May perform additional duties as needed.
