Position Agreement – Designer
Position Summary
Working with the Senior Designer and Design Team, the Designer is a key creative contributor to all phases of high-end, residential interior design from initial design concept to installation. This position requires a strong knowledge of design, interior architecture, showrooms, drafting, space planning, and custom furniture design. This is a non-exempt position requiring critical thinking and independent judgment in the course of daily interactions with peers, clients, and vendors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Design Team in the implementation of several, concurrent residential interior design projects from initial planning through project completion
- Assist the Senior Designer and Design Team in creating project furnishing budgets
- Work with the Design Director, providing input regarding scope, scheduling, and budget requirements of each project
- Prepare meeting notes for Senior Designers review
- Monitor project parameters with input from Senior staff as to budget and schedule
- Prepare floor, space, and furniture plans and elevations in AutoCAD, and produce hand drawings or computer renderings that communicate design intent
- Prepare and maintain interior design plan documents such as finish schedules, specifications, product/room matrices, schedules, and shop drawings
- Source furniture, fabrics, fixtures, and finishes in line with client needs and the Principal’s design vision and project budget
- Prepare client presentation materials
- Effectively communicate design vision and aesthetic to junior staff members. Working with Senior Designers, delegate tasks and oversee design team progress to meet project schedules
- Oversee process of gathering quotes. Prepare proposals and review for technical and financial accuracy. Prepare proposal packages for submission to clients
- Work with the Junior Designer in the tracking and coordination of all reserves, CFA’s, lead times, inspections, deliveries, and installations. Ensure review of CFA’s and merchandise inspection for approval with vendor and client
- Participate in weekly Design Reviews with team
- As needed, represent MQ at meetings with clients, architects, contractors, and vendors, and organize and attend installations. Relay relevant information to Design Team
- Develop long-term relationships with clients, design showrooms and vendors
- Maintain all project-related information in electronic folders, and Studio Designer
- Assist in the weekly maintenance of the studio
- Assist the Senior Designer with delegation of tasks to the Junior Designer and Intern
- Daily time tracking and entry into Studio Designer
QUALIFICATIONS
- Four-year degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture or equivalent skill set
- Four-to-seven years of experience working within a firm producing high-end residential design
- Experience successfully completing projects with specified budgets and timelines
- Experience and comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Strong technical knowledge of MQ aesthetic, preferred
- Strong technical knowledge of cabinetry, tile and stone installations, and other fabrications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Intermediate to advanced skills in AutoCAD and Sketch Up
- Knowledge of – or ability to quickly learn – Studio Designer
- Proficiency with software & technical skills: Auto CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Gmail, Google Calendar, Mac applications, MS Office Suite
- Creative problem-solving, organization, and time management skills
- Must possess a high level of creativity, ingenuity, and an eye for style
- Strong knowledge of resources: furniture, lighting, custom soft goods, vendors, and showrooms, including local, regional, and custom furnishings
- Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work within a team and proactively create harmonious and professional relationships
- Demonstrated competency in ability to effectively manage Junior Designers and Interns
- Willingness to observe company policies, procedures, and the instructions of the Principal and management
- Experience in furniture and product design helpful
Location: East Bay (near Bay Bridge)
Hours: Full-time during business hours and days, M-F 8:30am-5pm

Pay: $38,059.53 - $108,777.88 per year
