Role Overview
We are seeking a Revenue Accountant to join our Accounting Team. This role will report to the Accounting Manager and will be responsible for full cycle Revenue and Billing-to-Cash functions in a public SOX 404B environment. The Revenue Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day functions of revenue operations and will be a key contributor in the timeliness and accuracy of the revenue close process in accordance with ASC 606 and corporate policy. This individual will also be a liaison for the Demand Team, Sales, Legal, Technical Accounting, Tax and IT in reviewing contracts for the appropriate revenue recognition considerations and for financial reporting. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Financial Statement Close
- Perform monthly and quarterly procedures related to revenue cycle to ensure proper revenue recognition. Prepare journal entries, revenue disaggregation, account reconciliations and other ad-hoc analysis as requested.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness in accounting for revenue, deferred revenue, revenue accruals, unbilled receivables and related cost of sales.
- Responsible for financial reporting on all aspects of Prepay customers (Agents and regular), analysis of client balances and reconciliation of credit card payments to merchant account processor reports.
- Help maintain the revenue recognition policy for changes in the business or for new policies, verticals, product lines and projects.
- Revenue Operations
- Prepare invoices, non-Exchange billing, revenue adjustments, revenue imports and subsequent collections. Resolve payment discrepancies.
- Review customer contracts and insertion orders to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment under ASC 606.
- Assist with customer onboarding. Maintain accurate customer information in both the billing system and the Exchange platform.
- Assess credit viability of new and existing customers. Monitor credit risk/exposure.
- Partner with Product and Technology for significant process improvements, including automation, system implementations and other special projects.
- Coordinate with Tax in the calculation of state apportionment and filing of state tax returns.
- SOX Compliance
- Support Accounting Manager on information requests made by internal and external audit on Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls and revenue compliance.
- Ensure integrity of key processes by understanding systems and flow of transactions.
- Enhance and implement scalable best practices in the revenue process.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
- 3 years of combined public or corporate accounting experience including relevant experience in a revenue-focused role within the monthly close process and financial reporting
- Technical knowledge and application of ASC 606 revenue recognition standard, US GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal controls
- CPA or working towards completing a CPA a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated understanding of accounting cycles
- Self-motivated and able to think independently and creatively to handle a diverse workload and multiple deadlines
- Proficiency with Sage Intacct or other accounting applications
- Experience with Big 4 accounting firms preferred but not required
