WPBF-25, the ABC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida is looking for a Local News Reporter who wants to own the big story of the day, excels in breaking news, and creates compelling live shots.
We are looking for a strong, take-charge reporter who hits the ground running every day. You are an excellent writer who knows how to tell a visual story, executes compelling live shots, loves breaking news, and is highly competitive.
We value strong enterprise reporting and we’re looking for someone who finds the stories that lead newscasts. In addition to credibility, poise, and personality, you are a reporter who isn’t afraid to ask the tough questions and will hold those in power accountable.
You must be able to work quickly, under tight deadlines, understand and implement direction and feedback, develop sources, and collaborate with a video journalist to tell the best story possible.
You should be an avid local news consumer who knows what is happening and how to develop a network of community contacts.
Your reel should demonstrate live reporting ability. Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards are a must.
Must work with urgency and be dependable. You will report to the News Director.
Responsibilities :
- Regularly plan, gather and assemble stories on day-of news and other assigned stories; must be able to write a package quickly, while also turning vosots for other newscasts and digital content
- Communicate and collaborate with video journalist on how to develop / tell story in the most visual and compelling way
- Must adhere to writing / editing timing deadlines for assigned newscasts; must provide editors enough time to edit and provide producers with script information in timely manner
- Develop a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and allow the reporter to cover stories of significance
- Contribute pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms daily
- Can juggle multiple stories and projects at once, and demonstrates exceptional time-management skills by meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure
- In-person attendance is required
Requirements :
- 3-5 years of reporting experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop stories and cover breaking news
- Your demo reel should be indicative of your everyday work
- Strong writing and storytelling skills
- Work varied shifts, including overnights, nights and weekends
- Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production
- Valid driver’s license, and clear driving record
- Operate mobile transmission devices and use the latest technology
- Can work in all weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds
- Related military experience will be considered
