What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Quality Inspector position at Medical Murray?
Position Summary:
The Quality Lead works with the quality control inspectors and the production team to support the product/component inspection activities per the schedule objectives defined by the production and engineering teams. The product/component inspection support needs to meet the customer's requirements for quality, quantity, and timeliness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- WORKING "Lead by Example" leader using "experience and expertise" in quality control inspection to support the production realization activities, with a focus on:
- Working with the production team to identify and assign appropriate inspector(s) to support manufacturing build objectives
- After inspectors are assigned to their associated product inspection tasks; perform part/product inspection activities
- Support inspector training and paperwork review as and when required
- Continuous inspection & process improvements - support engineering, suggest improvements, communication, achieve or exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by management for the Product Line such as inspection cycle times, minimizing documentation errors, Cross-Training inspectors, etc.
- Communication of non-conformance issues identified during inspection, first level of escalation, stop line as necessary - quality and efficiency
- Support NCR creation and resolution
- Paperwork/LHR review - daily check inspection forms; blanks filled in, paperwork complete, forms signed by appropriate inspector
- Manage cross-training of team members and establish absentee backup plans A, B and C - maintain and request to meet requirements / add people
- Follow daily or weekly production schedule and align inspection team members as needed - delegate responsibilities, hold accountable, including observance & enforcement of the break-schedules
- Startup, In-process inspections - notification of needs to Production and/or Management, spot check line for errors
- Objectivity in making decisions based on data analysis and feedback
- Completion of all paperwork as required to maintain proper records
- Line setup/management
- Perform line clearance audit activities as needed
- Work with inspectors to ensure workstations have gauges and equipment available to ensure area is working in an efficient, effective, and safe manner
- Perform or delegate job start-up inspections as required
- Responsible to follow Medical Murray QMS, including all applicable SOP's included in the Quality Training Matrix
- Management of people
- Ensures that all company established practices are followed and maintained - lead by example, address issues if appropriate, elevate to management if necessary
- Ensures strict adherence to safety requirements
- Ensures inspectors are properly trained, assist in problem resolution, and ensure they can satisfactorily perform independently SOPs
- Contact management and/or engineering for maintenance and repairs of inspection gauges/equipment as necessary
- Track daily inspection rates, on paper or by computer as requested. Ensure correct sample plans are used.
- Maintain a work environment that promotes teamwork and a pleasant workplace - escalates to management, as necessary (decision on bringing in HR)
- Performs other job-related duties as requested
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- 5 of years quality inspection experience (medical device production experience preferred)
- Prior leadership experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage small groups of inspectors to ensure that quality and delivery objectives are met
- Strong work ethic, reliable and punctual, including break-times
- Manage work station to ensure established levels of safety and quality are met on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
- Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and other areas to ensure that quality and delivery objectives are met
- Works to ensure that all required product training requirements are current
- Demonstrates leadership and work ethic by example
- Good hand to eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to work on a variety of tasks on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis
