Job Description Summary
The MUSC Health Charleston Division Director of Operations reports to the Executive Director of Operations. Under limited supervision, the Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and performance of Environmental Services (EVS), Linen Services, Food and Nutrition Services (FANS), Pastoral Care, Valet Services, Interpreter Services, and Guest Services for the Charleston Division. These departments include the management and supervision of Managers and Non-MUSC contracted services leaders. This role will work with MUSC Health care team members, MUSC Health patients, MUSC Health visitors, Purchased Services care team members, MUSC Regional facilities, University Shared Services, and South Carolina businesses. Additional responsibilities includes but not limited to oversight of department budgets, developing annual budgets, invoice oversight, presentation of performance and variances, standard work, program development in conjunction with interdisciplinary teams, capital planning, SBARs as needed, strategic planning, succession planning, singular and cumulative team and care team member development, action planning (Goals, DE&I, Retention, Recognition, etc.), A3 problem-solving, project management across division, performance management, understanding and ability to implement lean concepts, coordinating and developing programs across division, understanding and compliance of hospital and clinic accreditation guidelines, rounding across departments, cross-level communication, serving as Administrator on Call, planning and carrying out operations during Emergency Management procedures, serving and leading on facility and division level meetings and committees, leading space planning, and working with interdisciplinary stakeholders and areas to build service standards of excellence, and all other duties as assigned, in alignment with MUSC Healths mission, vision, values, and goals. The job requires strong leadership skills, ability to work in a matrixed environment, and experience working with and managing relationships across multiple interdisciplinary teams to ensure the Charleston Division and MUSC Health meets its goals and objectives.Entity

Job Description
Responsible for planning, performance oversight and intervention for major purchased services within the Charleston Division to support access and favorable patient experience for hospital-based adult and pediatric services. Interfaces with System shared services groups and collaborates to ensure uptime and timely resolution of issues that impact Charleston Division hospital-based clinical operations, especially those that cross services. Provides leadership for Space Management in partnership with Facilities. With the Executive Director, drives the implementation MUSC Health initiatives, programs, and processes among departments within Operations to achieve Pillar Goals.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Budget planning, accounting for changes in census and other internal/external factors impacting cost and resources, for EVS, FANS, and Linen services for the Charleston Division. Ensures vendors understand Charleston Division service and access requirements. Evaluates vendor plans. Develops scorecards for KPIs and tracking of vendor performance vs. targets and establishes cadence for review with vendor leadership. In the event of service disruption, takes lead to negotiate recovery plans with vendors and holds accountable. Performs accountability conversations and meetings as needed. Facilitates huddles as necessary during recovery periods.
Rounds on hospital-based clinical areas. Identifies barriers to smooth operations with area leaders and teammates. Interfaces with System shared services including IS, Supply Chain, Risk Management/Waste Management, and Facilities and other Directors within Operations including Security, Biomed engineering, Quality, Risk, Accreditation, Human Resources, and others when problems impacting clinical operations are not resolved within agreed-upon timelines.
Conducts scheduled 2-way briefings with ICCE Chiefs/Administrators on major, contracted vendor performance within clinical areas serving their patients. Conducts scheduled 2-way briefings with Shared services leadership on issues and resolution of issues impacting smooth operation of clinical areas. Visualizes performance status and works collaboratively to solve prioritized problems.
Develops PowerPoints and communication tools as necessary to relay communication to senior leadership.
Co-chairs Space Management Committee with Facilities leadership. With Facilities, ensure that openings, moves, and modifications of Charleston hospital-based clinical service units launch on-time and support access and business goals with particular focus on the shared service readiness.
With support from the Executive Director of Operations, implements A3 problem solving, visual management tools, attendance and updates at tiered huddles, and other elements of MUSC Health among departments and within departments reporting to Charleston Division Operations and stakeholders thereof.
Support other duties as assigned by Executive Director of Operations and Chief Operations Officer for the Charleston Division.
Additional Job Description
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree required
- Five (5) years work experience, preferably with a large, academic medical center
- Performance improvement within large, inpatient hospital operations
- Proven leadership, facilitative, critical thinking skills, high emotional intelligence
- Ability to observe, analyze data, draw conclusions, and create countermeasure plans with timelines
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure
