Position Summary: The Nurse Manager will oversee the operations of an after-hours phone triage line serving the villages of the Yukon-Kuskokwim (YK) Delta. This vital role involves ensuring efficient and effective triage services, managing day-to-day operations, and contributing to the setup and implementation of the triage line. The position requires a combination of clinical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services to remote communities. The incumbent is an expert in human factors, patient safety, and the use of technology to optimize care delivery processes and effectively communicate patient care activity. This role is responsible for effective process design, development and implementation of this new line of service in collaboration with multiple departments including: RAVEN EHR team for patient encounter documentation and reports, clinicians, departmental leadership, Quality, Patient Safety, Accreditation and Licensure Departments and Information Systems staff to clarify needs, prioritize requests, design workflow to fit with electronic systems, execute change, and facilitate adaptation to the RAVEN EHR. Demonstrates independent decision making as appropriate in evaluation of triage calls, as well as training and development of the phone triage staff for the call center based on YKHC established protocol and policies and procedures. Determines feasibility and advisability of system changes for Quality Assurance and Process Improvement. The incumbent may serve as the primary instructor for new and existing staff in the team. The Nurse Manager may be expected to complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education - Must have completed a program of education in Nursing from an NLN approved institution. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN); Master’s preferred.
Minimum Experience - Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
License, Certification, Registration. Must be licensed in good standing in the State of Alaska as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS. The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain competencies for this position. Experience in emergency nursing, telehealth, or triage services is highly desirable.
Leadership Skills Demonstrated ability to implement and manage healthcare services and programs. Strong leadership and team management skills.
Equipment/Tools
Medical equipment as appropriate for position. Must have computer skills needed to access computerized medical records. Office equipment (i.e. computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine).
Specialized Knowledge and Skills - Proficient oral and written communication skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards. Able to practice nursing as described in the Alaska Status regarding the practice of Registered Nursing. Cognitive and technical knowledge required with the ability to manage care across the continuum of care. Possess the ability for independent actions within prescribed limits. Able to utilize the nursing process in the provision of patient care. Able to administer treatments, medications, provide education, and collaborate with other professions.
Desirable Skills- Familiarity with the healthcare needs and challenges of remote and indigenous communities. Experience in Quality Assurance and Improvement programs. Proficiency in telehealth technologies and electronic health records (EHR). Crisis management and emergency response skills.
General Responsibilities- Will be expected to be as needed with the Phone Triage Line, to identify if the particular issue is one that can be handled by the IT department, or one that would better be handled by Application Management Services (AMS). Responsible for support of overflow calls at times of high volume. Willing to provide backup support when call volumes are high or staffing is low.
Supervisory Responsibilities- Supervises a phone triage staff as required to handle call volume. Serves as consult and trainer to staff on the Triage Team.
