  • Job Summary
    • Under limited supervision, provides technical expertise related to decision support, business analytics, and asset acquisition and works closely with the MedStar Health Director, Business Analytics and Decision Support and MedStar Health Director, Business Development. Work closely with Finance teams supporting decision support duties at each of the hospital facilities, to standardize these functions, including financial analysis and service line analysis. Additionally, works closely with IT clinical leadership and other MedStar representatives to further develop an integrated Financial/Clinical decision support system. Assists major business development activity.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education/Training
      • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree preferred; knowledge of hospital cost accounting, financial operations, profitability and cost analysis, feasibility analysis, productivity analysis, forecasting, and project management.

    • Experience
      • 5 years progressively responsible job related experience, including knowledge in hospital cost accounting, hospital reimbursement, financial operations, profitability and cost analysis, feasibility analysis, productivity analysis, forecasting, and project management is required.

    • License/Certification/Registration
      • No special certification, registration or licensure is required.

    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
      • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, database report writers, health information systems. High level problem-solving skills, verbal and written communication skills, project management, consensus building, problem resolution, and quantitative analysis.
  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Assists in establishing, maintaining, and enhancing standard processes, resources, and deliverables to support systemness and effectiveness of cost data for DSS end-users.
    • Assists in the training and development of other financial and operational staff. Communicates and enforces standards of performance and productivity.
    • Assists with major business acquisition activity, including but not limited to pro forma projections and due diligence as requested.
    • Conducts analysis, research, and reporting to interpret, validate, and reconcile complex financial data. Coordinates resolution of issues and identification of opportunities to improve accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    • Develops, produces, and distributes System and Region level routine and ad hoc reports for evaluating and assessing existing and proposed programs using Decision Support System (DSS) data extracts and tools.
    • Extracts data and provides reports requested by VP.
    • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes related to health care finance.
    • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Provides support to hospital decision support financial analysts (at least 10 hospitals) , including but not limited to technical assistance for cost accounting, to ensure timely availability and standard quality of finance data in DSS.
