Title: Lab Assistant (Central Receiving Technician)

SUMMARY
This position precisely and accurately performs clinical sample receipt, accessioning, and processing; donor sample receipt, centrifugation, and organization; preparing whole blood units for component preparation, i.e. preparing units for processing, recording temperature of incoming shipments.
Operates a variety of computer systems and lab equipment, performing periodic equipment maintenance as necessary. Monitors and maintains adequate laboratory supplies. Provides excellent customer service to both external and internal customers. Complies with all institutional safety and personnel policies, confidentiality, and good manufacturing practices.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As defined by CLIA, this position is responsible for preanalytical handling of samples for testing.
- Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Receives units from collection sites, obtains transport temperature and prepares units for Component Lab.
- Performs patient/donor sample processing, accessioning and organizing from multiple external and internal customers, into multiple computer systems.
- Maintains accurate records in a timely manner according to established policies.
- Complies with all established policies and procedures including testing and reporting protocols, safety practices, confidentiality policies, and personnel practices; completes all tasks as assigned.
- Understands and delivers on customer needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma.
- 6 months prior work experience.
- Must possess attention to detail, accurate in transcription of numbers, good written and oral communication skills, and computer skills, ability to work in a team environment or independently, good decision making skills, ability to work irregular hours or overtime as dictated by departmental needs.
- Physically able to remain on their feet 90% of the time.
- Able to lift up to 40lbs.
