Position Summary:
Menaul School is looking for a well-organized, inspirational, detail-oriented candidate with excellent communication skills and high aspirations to serve as our college counselor. This position is part-time, but may be combined with other responsibilities to create a full-time position. The college counselor at Menaul School is a professional who will help each student to create an individualized plan for university admission and post-high school life. Menaul School students are well-prepared for college academics, and a highly successful college counselor will help to connect our students to right-fit programs in New Mexico, other states, and internationally.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Communicates regularly with administration, faculty, families, and students

Builds and maintains relationships with admissions professionals

Develop and maintain a strong data-driven system to track student progress and outcomes

Compiles regular records of college admissions activity, especially an end-of-year report

Organizes standardized testing at the school through the College Board

Inspire students to dream big for college and career aspirations

Develop student skills applicable to the admissions process (essay writing, interviewing, intrapersonal skills)

Educates students and families about the specific details of the college admissions process, including scholarship and financial aid opportunities

Assisting students in course selection, extracurriculars, test prep and planning pathways for competitive college admissions

Develops and maintains a strong knowledge of colleges and universities, including admissions criteria, university tiers, specific programs of study, college athletics

Holds weekly college seminars with different student populations to help them formulate an admissions plan, alert them to upcoming deadlines, review files, teach specific skills, and otherwise give developmentally appropriate guidance

Prepares supplementary materials to be sent to colleges, including college counselor letters, transcripts, school program descriptions

Review student files and be available for answering questions

Work effectively with students on both an individual and group basis

Maintains appropriate contact with students and parents

Complies with Menaul School Employee Standards of Conduct, upholds and enforce rules, administrative directives and school policies
Minimum Requirements for Application:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or internationally accredited college or university

Ability to regularly create, track, and report key data in a professional manner

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and research skills

Ability to maintain high level of professionalism regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Abilities:

Master’s degree from a regionally or internationally accredited college or university

Experience, training, or education in college counseling
-
Competitive college admissions experience
-
Experience working with youth
-
Independent school experience
-
Positive relationship with administration, faculty, students

Strong experience with MS Office Suite, especially Excel for program data and tracking
-
Competency with Naviance, Parchment, the Common App, the Common Data Set, etc.
