THE PROGRAM: Youth Services Program (YSP) Youth Services Program (YSP) provides a variety of high-quality activities and services to children, youth, and families throughout Mendocino County, in schools, MCYP Drop-in Center(s), and within the community. Services include educational groups and presentations, provision of basic needs such as food, hygiene, transportation support, and a youth-friendly clothing closet. YSP hosts Positive Youth Development events and activities and provides connection to community resources, paraprofessional youth success coaching, 24/7 crisis line, outreach, prevention and early intervention for high-risk, runaway, and homeless youth including short-term respite services for minors 12-18, emergency and transitional housing for transition age youth ages 18-24 in a shared living home environment, rapid rehousing, housing navigation/case management services, substance use disorder treatment, therapeutic services, and supervised visitation services for court ordered family custody cases.

THE POSITION: Youth Services Program (YSP) Support Counselor/Care Manager (I, II, III) Currently hiring Part-Time and Full-Time non-exempt position. The Youth Services Support Counselor/Care Manager (SC/CM) will perform a variety of para-professional duties in schools, MCYP Drop-in Center(s), MCYP transition age youth (TAY) shelter home(s) and within the community. Services include but are not limited to, the facilitation of Positive Youth Development activities, educational presentations and groups, social-emotional and mental health wellness support, youth success coaching, goal setting, case/care management, education and career planning independent living skill training, housing navigation, conflict/anger management, substance use prevention education, advocacy, crisis intervention and court-ordered supervised visitation monitoring. The SC/CM will be required to be familiar with existing community resources for the purpose of assessing and referring to additional supportive services. SC/CM is required to attend program and clinical supervision meetings, professional development trainings, community partner coalitions, MCYP sponsored activities as assigned and take a rotation on the MCYP crisis line each month. Job duties, client caseloads and assignments may vary.

REPORTS TO: Youth Services Program Manager

SKILLS AND ABILITES:

  • Ability to work autonomously with high level accountability & integrity
  • Commitment to professionalism and collaboration with MCYP team members and community partners
  • Willingness to take a rotation on MCYP’s after-hours community response line
  • Availability to occasionally work outside of regular business hours with advanced notice and planning
  • Organize effectively; prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
  • Proactive communication both verbal and written
  • Complete paperwork accurately/timely
  • Maintain human services ethical standards, client and program compliance, confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
  • Skills in classroom curriculum delivery and presentation  Computer skills and social media literacy
  • Knowledge of prevention education topics
  • Familiar with Positive Youth Development, Harm Reduction & Trauma Informed Care
  • Ability to relate to people of all cultural backgrounds and ages

Minimum Requirements: Any combination of related work history, training, college classes, volunteer or life experience working with youth necessary to perform essential functions of the position as outlined above.

Preferred Requirements: Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field with one year related work experience, or an Associate’s Degree with three year’s related work experience. Fluency in Spanish both written and verbal. Availability to work a nontraditional schedule including evenings/weekends.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Successful candidate must submit a minimum of 3 references, provide documentation of education, certificates, trainings, participate in a personal background check (livescan fingerprinting through Department of Justice and FBI) and DMV record check. Candidate must have own car, possess a valid California driver’s license, provide a DMV print out, proof of current automobile liability insurance ($100,000/$300,000) and be willing to do some local transportation (reimbursed mileage).
