Overview
Mendocino Forest Products , LLC (MFP) is looking for an experienced Sawmill Supervisor to join our flagship sawmill in Ukiah, CA!
The base salary for this position is $85,000.00 to $90,000.00. Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience. Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package.
The Sawmill Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of the production phase of lumber manufacturing including: leading and directing a team with the daily activities in the sawmill and safely achieving the company’s quality and productions goals as well as planning, coordinating and maintaining the sawmill and operational schedules.
In aggregate, the Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

Responsibilities
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Oversees the operations of the log yard, sawmill and sawmill stacker.
- Communicates company goals and policies to all employees and coaches them towards achievement of the goals.
- Meets with management to discuss current issues, production goals, and quality control standards, and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
- Confers with other supervisors and employees to discuss progress towards production and quality goals.
- Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
- Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
- Maintains a safe working environment in and around the log yard and sawmill.
- Observes and evaluates employee behavior and performance; and trains employees to work in a safe and productive manner. Records and reports time worked for hourly production employees in the sawmill.
- Recognizes and promotes positive performance and behavior, and enforces rules, policies and procedures as required.
- Inspects products for adherence to quality standards from primary through finished stages of development.
- Develops, maintains and distributes reports to accounting and management.
- Analyzes issues within the sawmill and develops solutions. Recommends and implements measures to improve methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Participates in investigation and corrective action processes.
- Ensure regulatory compliance for the departments including operating within environmental permits, OSHA guidelines, insurance requirements and company policy.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized sawmill.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Five years related production experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Proficient skill level in Outlook, Power Point and MS Excel, Word, Project, Access, and Office
