What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney IV position at Mercury Insurance?

Position Summary:
-The primary job function of the Attorney IV is to evaluate complex cases, retain appropriate and qualified expert witnesses, and defend claims under homeowner and commercial policies. Policy limits offered but not accepted with substantial excess exposure; celebrity plaintiff or high profile plaintiff trial attorney. The position further requires the ability to train and supervise a staff consisting of at least one support attorney, secretary and paralegal.
Essential Job Functions:
-Complete comprehensive review of new file assignment concerning complex claims of liability and damages with initial evaluation letter to claims and service of initial discovery within 30 days receipt of assignment.
-Defends significant case depositions including parties and expert witnesses and completion of deposition summary within 15 days of receipt.
-Law and Motion: Legal research; preparation of motions, oppositions and replies to motions; court appearance at law and motion
-Trial preparation, trial and post-trial motions: This includes but is not limited to preparation of pre-trial documents, motions in limine and oppositions thereto; all facets of a jury trial, trial motions and post-trial motions. Length of trials range from 1-5 weeks.
Education:
• Requires a law degree and admission to the Bar in the state(s) where practicing.
Experience:
• Preferred 20 plus years of insurance defense experience;
• Preferred 5-10 years of experience as primary attorney defending cases involving catastrophic injury, wrongful death or traumatic brain injuries;
• Preferred 40 insurance defense personal injury jury trials 10 of which involved catastrophic injury, wrongful death or traumatic brain injury;
• Preferred experience of handling celebrity and/or high profile case;
• Annual review exceeding expectations during previous 2 years.
