Be the Senior Leader of a world-class Engineering Team for the Platform Systems - Systems Line of Business, a leading provider of safety-certifiable avionics, mission-critical, and Electronic Warfare solutions. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional Engineering operational leadership, strong technical skills, experience in the defense industry leading a 100 person Engineering team, and the ability to succeed in a growth environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a multi-discipline, multi-site Engineering team in the development of innovative avionics products. Ensure that product deliverables are completed on time, on budget, and meet quality expectations.
- Own all elements of product development from definition through production sustainment.
- Ensure product designs comply with budgeted labor costs and BOM cost targets.
- Support Bid & Proposal process. Ensure adequacy of all engineering bids for costs, resources, and period of performance.
- Estimate the costs, resources, and period of performance to implement IRAD projects. Monitor performance to ensure IRAD goals are satisfied.
- Attend design review meetings. Identify issues proactively; develop and implement solutions.
- Manage the stage/gate review process.
- Enhance existing Engineering team by identifying current capability deficiencies and then assisting with recruiting activities to fill those roles.
- Mentor Engineering managers to attract, retain, and develop top talent.
- Ensure creation and management of staffing plans.
- Maintain strong customer communication; provide product technical support as required
- Maintain relevant field knowledge (e.g. customer-to-customer relations, industry news, working knowledge of customer products)
- Participate in development of technical strategies and product roadmaps. Drive innovation and project execution while maintaining a professional environment where creative work is valued and recognized.
- Drive collaboration across engineering sites to ensure common processes, tools, and methodology are employed. Facilitate cross-site IP sharing. Drive a "Design anywhere, build everywhere" approach. Collaborate with engineering directors from other product lines to take and share best practices.
- Communicate engineering status and needs. Represent the engineering organization within the business unit, across the company, and to our customers.
To succeed in this role, you must have the following skills and experience:
- An Active Secret Clearance
- 7 years of experience as an engineer in product design role for defense electronic or related products.
- 5 years of experience as a department manager in engineering field successfully driving engineering execution.
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant Engineering discipline
- Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplined engineering teams
- Experience with defense contracts, either through government work or from a defense prime contractor.
- Strong attention to detail and core project management skills.
- Excellent organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Adept at multitasking; able to prioritize conflicting issues.
- Ability to mentor and develop subordinates' career goals, and devise plans to manage performance as needed.
- Strong interpersonal communication:
- Ability to lead and work well within a team.
- Ability to negotiate and compromise to drive to an agreed-to result.
- Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization; including senior executive leadership, operations and program management counterparts.
