Overview

Provides patient care by collecting and processing samples and performing clinical laboratory procedures. Required to work alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • With documented training, performs lab test by automated and manual methods according to defined policies and procedures.
  • Performs and interprets, with supervision, quality control and proficiency testing procedures to ensure accurate and precise test results.
  • Assures appropriate documentation in all aspects of laboratory testing to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Responds to questions from physicians and nurses regarding laboratory testing.
  • Processes specimens and prepares paperwork for transport to reference laboratories.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Performs phlebotomy to collect patient blood specimens.
  • Assists front desk clerk with releasing lab and x-ray orders form EPIC.
  • May be asked to assist with method and instrument evaluation.
  • May be asked to participate in teaching and training.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.
  • Assures adequate inventory of reagents and supplies.

Education and Experience

High school diploma.

Documentation of medical laboratory training received on clinic site, as well as through an accredited laboratory science program.

Certification/Licensure

Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
