Part Time & Per Diem: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; 118 Main Street, Hartford, CT
2nd shift - 4:00 PM-12:00 AM
3rd shift - 12:00 AM-8:00 AM
Job Summary
Maintain the safety of the facilities of Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation.
Job Duties
- Admit visitors into the Friendship Center including checking bags and scanning for contraband.
- Secure and lock the Friendship Center when not open to the public.
- Monitor visitors to the Diversion Center to ensure that they are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Ensure visitors stay in designated areas.
- Deescalate situations and maintain control of individuals and the residence.
- Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points permitting entry.
- Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities.
- Inform visitors of policies and procedures.
- Interact with ambulance and police department according to established policies.
- Maintain all required necessary logs and ensure log reflects the activities of the shift.
- Inform the supervisor of any problems and complete incident reports.
- Handle any emergencies that arise during their shift, including notification of managers.
- Maintain agency's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- Perform any other task that will assist the agency in carrying out its mission.
Duties/Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of each Mercy Housing and Shelter employee to:

- Promote the human dignity, rights, safety, and wellbeing of clients served.
- Professionally and ethically handle agency and client money/property.
- Fulfill all responsibilities as a mandatory reporter.
- Display a positive attitude towards clients, programs, and the agency.
- Demonstrate good communication with clients, supervisors, peers, outside resources and family/guardians.
- Demonstrate good attendance.
- Punctually attend all assigned meetings, in-services, and trainings.
- Demonstrate involvement as a team member.
- Adhere to all applicable regulations, laws and policies/procedures and know and understand your job description.
- Submit paperwork and meet job responsibility deadlines as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Knowledge of public safety and security procedures.
- Demonstrated attention to environment and detail.
- Ability to respond to potentially hazardous situation tactfully and professionally.
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification and some work experience, preferable with homeless persons, persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must demonstrate the ability to assist physically disabled visitors in emergency evacuations and fire drills.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to bend at the waist frequently.
Certificates and Licenses
- Must have valid Connecticut driver’s license and a clean driving record with proof of automobile insurance. Must have a vehicle in good working condition.
Compensation & Benefits
- $16-$17 per hour, based on experience.

PT shifts:
- 1st shift PT: Sat/Sun, 8am-4pm
-2nd sift PT: Sat/Sun, 4pm - 12am
- 3rd shift PT: Sat/Sun, 12am-8am
