Primary Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Production Manager, the incumbent is responsible for creation, initiation and monitoring of the production schedule management system. The Master Scheduler specializes in implementing best scheduling practices, creating production schedules to ensure capability/capacity of equipment and resources to meet customer demand, is an expert in Plex.
Major Responsibilities of Position
- Leadership: Supervise, coach and mentor Production Planners on their daily duties in supporting production and supply chain to ensure 100% on time delivery goals are achieved, manufacturing products free of defect, with minimum scrap. Coordinate Production Planner schedules ensuring adequate coverage of plant scheduling and communication needs. Participates in the hiring of new Production Planners, and on the application of disciplinary action when necessary.
- Customer Service: Support supply chain team (i.e. Materials Superintendent) in communicating shipping delays and constraints ensuring customer protection through implementation and control of robust and immediate corrective actions.
- Planning and Scheduling: Develops a master schedule for all plant value streams based upon MRP, level loading, inventory strategy and lot sizing. Creates productions schedules for Die Cast and Secondary operations, ensuring relevant staff receives the information and that schedules are followed. Records output into the correct system(s).
- Analyzes customer schedules for mix/volume fluctuation.
- Integrates the customer forecast from Sales and Business Development into the Plant requirements.
- Uses lead times and historical performance data to create schedules, collaborating with production and material personnel to ensure streamlined operations.
- Records production progress and ensures documentation is accurate and all of the various processes and timelines are followed closely for the most efficient results possible.
- Evaluates and determines estimated equipment set-ups, cycle times, and work center hours.
- Coordinates with Maintenance Planner regarding equipment availability for preventative maintenance and work order completion.
- Monitors material flow and ensures supply needs and shipping goals are met.
- Documents key information, including downtime, peak production, inventory accuracy, and scheduling accuracy; and works with personnel to analyze and create enhanced functionality in manufacturing applications.
- Problem Solving: Address internal production constraints, providing necessary guidance to allow teams to identify root cause and countermeasures so problems can be eradicated and prevented from reoccurrence.
- Communication: Conducts regular meetings (i.e. monthly sales volume, weekly production planning, etc) to accurately communicate all necessary information to relevant stakeholders.
- Identifies and communicates projected raw material needs and constraints.
- Identifies and communicates scheduling conflicts to the Plant Manager and Supply Chain Manager in a timely and efficient manner necessary to obtain resolutions.
- Ensures accurate and precise communication of results and targets to shop floor teams, peers, and management team.
- Training: Provides adequate training to scheduling/planning personnel in all processes, procedures and systems.
Personal Competencies and Education
- Associates (or higher) degree in a supply chain, engineering, or business discipline or Technical College diploma (CET or similar) or equivalent educational and work experience in a similar role.
- Minimum of five years of production scheduling/planning experience within an automotive manufacturer (OEM or supplier).
- Previous leadership experience.
- Deep knowledge of Plex ERP System
- Knowledge of Material Resource Planning (MRP) best practices.
- Microsoft Office Professional with advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to Motivate employees.
- Problem Solving and Analysis skills
- Strong interpersonal, time management, multitasking and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work in a team oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Fluency in English.
